Thelma Hulbert Gallery (THG), Honiton plans to reopen its doors on the 11th July with the relaunch of its acclaimed exhibition: ARTIST ROOMS Richard Long Being in the Moment . This ambitious exhibition, which examines our relationship to the natural world is kick-starting East Devon District Council’s programme of cultural recovery. It will be accompanied by an inspiring new creative programme of art activities, projects and workshops coming soon to a neighbourhood near you.

Connecting with nature during isolation

As part of their Culture + Climate programme 2020, THG has teamed up with East Devon AONB to share NATURE SHORTS: an online series showcasing art practices which inspire, build creativity and deepen our connection with nature.

NATURE SHORTS explores how we can connect with nature during isolation, sharing different artistic approaches to land and space. The highlighted artists work across a range of materials and processes including land art, photography, printmaking and performance.

Have you got an old clock that you’d like to become part of an ambitious new art installation at East Devon’s Thelma Hulbert Gallery (THG) in Honiton?

Exeter School Pupil Fundraises for Memory Café

An Exeter School pupil has been supporting the Honiton Memory Café in their efforts to fundraise and build awareness around dementia and Alzheimer's.

Sixth Former Richard Baker has been supporting the Honiton Memory Café because he enjoys helping others. He has attended some of the social events that the Memory Café runs for carers and their cared-for and is helping to publicise a charity art auction that is taking place at the Thelma Hulbert Gallery (THG) on Friday 25 April to raise funds.

Celebrating a new collaboration of the South West's animation courses, the New Year kicks off at THG with Degrees of Animation, part of 2014’s Animated Exeter festival.

Focusing on the work of some of the most exciting new talent to graduate from animation courses across the South West, this year's Animated Exeter exhibition gives an insight into the work involved in producing even the shortest animation. Some of the original models and drawings will be shown alongside the films.

Art activity family drop-in

THG are running a family drop-in art activity making paper lace jewellery from 11am to 4pm.

This fun half-term activity will involve making brooches, fascinators and bangles from a combination of real and paper-cut lace.

Suggested donation is £2 per child.

The event is suitable for children six years old and upwards.

Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult, as this workshop involves using sharp scissors.

East Devon District Council is encouraging local people and visitors to nominate its popular public gallery in Honiton for an award recognising its family-friendly status.

The Thelma Hulbert Gallery in Dowell Street, Honiton, is seeking supporters to nominate it for the Telegraph Family Friendly Museum Award, a national accolade bestowed upon the museum or gallery which is most welcoming, engaging and encouraging of children, young people and families.

This year marks the centenary of the birth of the artist Thelma Hulbert and, as a special tribute, a collection of Thelma’s Still Life canvases will be shown at the gallery which bears her name, starting on 16 March.

In a unique exhibition exploring how different women artists see familiar everyday objects, visitors will be able to view rarely shown works by the late Thelma Hulbert alongside Still Life paintings by living contemporary artists Jessica Cooper and Vanessa Bowman.
