Devon Art Society Spring Exhibition

Hundreds of original paintings will go on display at the Devon Art Society ´s spring exhibition at St. Annes Hall, Babbacombe. There are classical themes covering floral, still-life, figurative and landscape as well as seascape subject matters and some abstracts too. The Devon Art Society of Torquay was founded in 1912 and has a long tradition of exhibiting and selling high quality paintings. Visitors are welcome to talk with the artists to share their impressions as many of the artists will be present throughout the exhibition. Open daily 10am - 6pm Admission is free

Schools Snowsport Week comes to Devon

A brand new initiative aimed at encouraging more schools to introduce their pupils to skiing and snowboarding will run in Devon this April as part of a national programme.

‘National Schools Snowsport Week sponsored by Visit Andorra’, which is being backed by Winter Olympians Aimee Fuller and Graham Bell, is running from 22 – 29 April 2016 and will include taster sessions and activities at both Plymouth Ski and Snowboard Centre and Torquay Alpine Ski Club.

Exeter skittles teams go for glory

Exeter’s top skittles teams are busily preparing for this year’s Gasket Guy British Skittles Championships after notching up the city’s best ever showing at the competition last year.

Two Tribes mixed team (pictured above) have won the British title two years running and will be going for a hat trick, never before achieved in the mixed competition’s history. Team captain Barry Powell said the team was preparing hard for the initial rounds.

‘We are adding a few promising newcomers to the existing squad,’ he said, ‘and arranging some extra matches to get into form.’

New flagship office for WBW

Devon law firm WBW has acquired two floors of Castle Circus House, providing over 8,000 sq ft of purpose purpose-built office block on Union Street, Torquay.

The building was constructed in the late 1930’s by Walter Jenkins Marble.

Currently operating out of two smaller offices in the town, the plan is for both premises to relocate to the new flagship office in summer of this year.

Devon and Cornwall Police are searching for 25-year-old Rose Polge who has been missing from Torquay since Friday.

Rose is described as white, 5 feet 2 inches tall with brown eyes, and long black hair either worn down or in a pony tail.

Since Ms Polge’s car was found in Ansteys Cove just after 6pm on Friday, officers from in and around the Torbay area have been involved in searches to locate her, as have the coastguard, RNLI and Dartmoor search and rescue.

Rose is describes as white, 5 feet 2 inches tall with brown eyes, and long black hair either worn down or in a pony tail.

Since Ms Polge’s car was found in Ansteys Cove just after 6pm on Friday, officers from in and around the Torbay area have been involved in searches to locate her, as have the coastguard, RNLI and Dartmoor search and rescue.

Elderly man seriously injured in assault

Police are investigating after a 69-year-old man suffered serious head injuries in an unprovoked attack in Torquay.

The man was assaulted by another man on the pathway between Hele Road and Pendennis Road around 11.45pm on Saturday night [6 February].

The victim, from Torquay, was walking home when he was approached by the other man and repeatedly hit about the head.

He sustained multiple skull and facial fractures and was taken to Torbay Hospital.
