Gregory Distribution Limited (GDL) has announced a huge recruitment drive in the wake of recent growth and strategic acquisitions.

The warehouse and logistics group, which includes Kay Transport and Hayton Coulthard Transport, currently employs nearly 1,500 people over 22 sites nationwide, but estimates it could require in excess of 100 new recruits over the next 12 months.

Exeter City Council has commissioned a brand new city-wide initiative – a Low Emission Strategy - to improve Exeter’s air quality.

The main aim of the strategy is to protect people - especially the vulnerable - from respiratory and other potentially life-threatening illnesses related to poor air quality caused by traffic.

Over 2,400 visitors flocked to Westpoint, Exeter in Devon for Motability’s One Big Day event on last weekend (26 July).

Exeter Bus Users Protected by Price Freezes

Regular bus users in Exeter are to be protected by a price freeze later this month as Stagecoach South West raise bus fares by an average of 2.6%.

Under the plans the Exeter Dayrider, Exeter Megarider Plus tickets and the unlimited day travel Explorer tickets as well as most of the region’s megarider tickets will see their prices frozen in an effort to limit the affect of the price on regular bus users.

Extra £7m to Repair Devon's Roads

Devon is to receive nearly £7 million in Government funding to repair roads damaged by the winter storms, the Transport Secretary has confirmed today. The funding comes after Devon County Council reported last month that at least 11,500 potholes had been reported on Devon’s roads in January and February alone. Recruitment Day could employ up to 20 drivers

A recruitment initiative at the Cullompton depot of Gregory Distribution could see up to 20 new drivers joining the business which will help to fill current vacancies and launch a new, flexible drivers pool.

Stagecoach donates £10,000 to Haiyan appeal

The Stagecoach transport group has donated £10,000 to help relief efforts in the Philippines.

The transport group has made the donation to the Philippines Typhoon Appeal run by the Disasters Emergency Committee.

Stagecoach has also agreed to match up to £40,000 of funding raised by its employees.

The group employs 35,000 bus and rail employees in both the UK and North America.

Devon ranked top in highways survey

Devon County Council has for the first time been ranked the country’s top performing local authorities for highways and transport services, according to a national survey.

Devon was among 70 highway authorities, including 25 county councils, which took part in the 2013 National Highways and Transport Public Satisfaction Survey (NHT Survey).

Devon County Council has been shortlisted in this year’s UK Bus Awards.

The County Council is among four finalists in the running for Local Authority Bus Project of the Year Award for its continued work on "Integrating Transport" in Devon.
