Exeter Great Hall re-opens its doors

The Exeter Great Hall, situated at the University of Exeter, re-opens its doors this autumn after three years to welcome internationally acclaimed rock and pop musicians including Newton Faulkner,Shinedown and Kaiser Chiefs.

The largest concert hall west of Bristol, the Exeter Great Hall has an illustrious history of staging concerts by music greats. U2, Bob Marley and Pink Floyd and more recently, Blur, The Arctic Monkeys, Radiohead and Keane, have all played at the venue.

Journalist Mishal Husain set for public talk at celebration of women’s creativity and decorative arts

A research project exploring how Victorian attitudes towards the decorative arts continue to influence the way women’s creativity is viewed today will conclude with a public event featuring award-winning journalist and author Mishal Husain.

The Art of Fiction, led by the University of Exeter, has investigated the legacy of 19th-century attitudes that textile-based art and craft, like embroidery, knitting, and crochet, were lacking in artistic value.

Exeter University top ranked for sport

The University of Exeter has come fifth in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) rankings for the 2015 / 2016 season—equalling its best ever overall achievement and beating its own record on points.

The University also finished the year as the top ranked institution in men’s hockey, men’s rugby and women’s tennis and both the men’s rugby and women’s indoor cricket team won their BUCS championships.

Letters from famous writers to Tarka the Otter author given to University

A fascinating collection of personal letters from a host of British literature luminaries to Henry Williamson, the author of Tarka the Otter have been donated to the University of Exeter. The University has received more than 2,000 letters from such celebrated writers, including, Siegfried Sassoon, John Betjeman and Enid Blyton as part of Williamson’s extensive personal archive. The letters arrive at the University almost 50 years to the day since Williamson first donated his literary manuscripts. YouGen founder Cathy Debenham has reached the final three in the Green Business and Inspirational Woman categories of the Devon Venus Awards . She will find out whether she has won at a grand awards ceremony in Exeter University’s Great Hall on 5 September 2013.
