Exeter student to join team kayaking length of Wales collecting plastic

Brogan Coates, a second year marine biology student studying at the University of Exeter, is to join a team of women kayaking the length of Wales collecting plastic as part of a campaign to raise awareness of the damage that single-use plastics cause to our oceans every year.

The campaign, which first happened last year, is organised by ‘Love Her Wild’ an organisation designed to empower women into exploring the world around them.

Francis latest player to commit to Chiefs

Rob Baxter’s plan of tying down the long-term futures of his frontline stars at Exeter Chiefs shows no sign of abating after another key figure today put pen to paper on a new deal.

The Chiefs head coach confirmed the Aviva Premiership club have taken up a clause to extend the contract of Welsh international Tomas Francis.

The York-born forward, who has won 14 caps for his country, including five in last autumn’s World Cup, has agreed a deal that will see him stay at Sandy Park until the end of the 2018-19 season.

Chiefs international facing citing charge

Exeter Chiefs prop Tomas Francis has been cited by the independent Citing Commissioner for allegedly making contact with the eyes or eye area of an opponent (Dan Cole) in the second half of the RBS Six Nations match between England and Wales at Twickenham on Saturday.

Francis, who was used as a second half replacement for Samson Lee, will answer a charge under Law 10.4 (m) which applies to Acts Contrary to Good Sportsmanship.

The disciplinary hearing will be held by an independent Six Nations Disciplinary Committee later this week.

Exeter Chiefs forward Geoff Parling has been named in the England squad for Saturday’s Rugby World Cup Pool A game against Wales at Twickenham Stadium.

Rugby World Cup tickets reach £9,000

Thousands of tickets to next year’s Rugby World Cup have appeared on ticket re-selling sites ahead of yesterday’s community ticket sale launch.

More than 4,000 tickets were discovered on a variety of re-selling sites by investigative reporters from BBC Watchdog.

This is despite the first community tickets, exclusively for members of local rugby clubs, only going on sale at 1pm yesterday.

A further batch of tickets for general sale will go on sale on 12 September 2014 and will include three fixtures at Exeter’s Sandy Park.
