Additional tree inspections are being recommended to be carried out in Devon in order to manage the risk of Ash dieback.

A report going before Devon County Council’s Cabinet next week (Wednesday 16 May) is asking councillors to consider increasing the frequency of inspections, initially to every two years and potentially every year. This would reduce the risk of falling trees and branches in order to protect public safety.

Ash trees account for around 20% of all trees in Devon, and virtually all native Ash trees are expected to succumb to Ash dieback.

Based on its...

This is in contrast to the early part of this decade where the figures hovered around 50%. Average occupancies were also up on 2016 levels at 1.5%.

Month on month there were also some interesting variations with the usual peak during the summer months, but a spike in occupancies in November and December which are now closer to 40% on average, as opposed to below the 30% mark, previously experienced in the...

BLOG: English Nationalism for the Common Good?

Probably most contemporary English nationalist movements are associated with support for right-of-centre economic and social policies. There is an assumption, perhaps not surprisingly after the EU membership Referendum, that English nationalism is racist, inward-looking and ethno-phobic. Nationalism is right- wing, ugly and nasty.

But what if there was another form of nationalism that instead of being close-minded and narrow, was open-hearted and generous? What if there was party or movement south of Hadrian’s Wall that reflected the progressiveness of the nationalists in Scotland...

Tankus the Henge

Event Date:
22/11/2015 - 8:00pm
Venue:
Exeter Phoenix

Superlatives are used far too frequently in the music business, but Tankus the Henge truly are the ultimate feel-good band. They come from a background of vaudeville and gypsy carnival, but it’s coupled with a commercial songwriting nous and flair for showmanship that makes them even greater than the sum of their parts.

Blessed with a charismatic cast of characters, Tankus the Henge are uplifting, uninhibited, eccentric, wondrously energetic and beautifully tuneful. One of the best live bands you’ll ever see. Any other band who billed themselves as ‘the most fantastic band in the...
