The new Bishop of Exeter, Rt Rev Dr Mike Harrison, has become the new Patron of Exeter’s local homelessness charity, St Petrock’s immediately following him taking up the position formally at the start of this month.
Bishop Mike, who took up the post on Saturday 2nd November, has a long association with homelessness charities since the very beginnings of his church career as a curate in South Lambeth, and later in Bradford and Leicester, and so didn’t hesitate before accepting the invitation to become St Petrock’s Patron, before he had even formally become Bishop.
A city-based charity launches its own manifesto this week, which is aimed at focusing minds on the traumatic subject of homelessness and its causes.

A city-based homelessness charity has teamed up with a poverty-focused partner to host a political event, in a bid to place the election spotlight firmly on Exeter’s most vulnerable people and those who are struggling to make ends meet.

Exeter City Council has secured major government funding to continue to address homelessness in the city.
The government today (Thursday 17 September) announced that Exeter would receive £440,000 from its Next Steps Accommodation Programme as part of a commitment to end rough sleeping.
The Next Steps programme sees £91.5 million given to 274 councils across the UK to help vulnerable people housed during the pandemic.
