Budleigh Music Festival announces change to line up

Organisers of this month’s Budleigh Music Festival have announced a last minute change to their line-up, after their ‘Rising Star’ performer had to pull out due to illness.

The festival’s Rising Star for 2023, pianist Ethan Loch, was due to perform at the festival on Monday 3 July, but withdrew from the event last week.

Now organisers have secured another young musician, Jeneba Kanneh-Mason, to perform in Ethan’s place.

Care home residents have a fizzy time with local business during lockdown

Staff and residents at a Budleigh Salterton residential home have been having a fizzy time creating bath bombs with a local Exmouth business, but in a safe ‘virtual’ way.

During lockdown, all care homes have had to close their doors to family, loved ones and their usual activity visitors.

More than 15 local dogs celebrated Devon Loves Dogs’ first birthday on Saturday, with prizes, games and treats for dogs, as well as a specially-made dog birthday cake.

Devon Loves Dogs joined forces with Pebblebed Heaths Conservation Trust to take dogs and their owners on a guided, waggy walk around the Pebblebed Heaths to learn about the special wildlife there. At the end of the walk the dog owners enjoyed breakfast, while the dogs enjoyed eating a cake made of dog-friendly ingredients. Race against time to save historic croquet pavilion from demolition

A Victorian croquet pavilion that has stood for over 120 years could be demolished in less than a fortnight unless the owners are persuaded to think again.

The Croquet Club at Budleigh Salterton has informed the council of their intention to demolish the timber-framed building as a recent surveyor’s report found it to be structurally unsound. The survey found structural flaws in the 19th century pavilion, but the club’s management committee has reportedly declined the offer of a second expert opinion, insisting it would be impossible to get realistic estimates to repair it....

The line-up of best-selling authors and budding literary stars for the annual Budleigh Salterton Literary Festival has been announced.

Hospiscare@Home is a new service which brings the expertise of the hospice into the home, responding to the needs of the local communities in and around Budleigh Salterton, Exmouth, Lympstone and Woodbury.

This new service is an extension of the Clinical Nurse Specialist service already provided in the area and offers hands-on nursing care when required, any time, day or night, supporting adult patients with life-limiting illness who wish to remain at home at the end of their lives.

Jewellery taken in Budleigh burglary

Police are appealing for witnesses after a substantial amount of gold jewellery was taken during a burglary at an address in Budleigh Salterton.

Offenders entered the home on Armytage Road in Budleigh Salterton on Monday 1 May 2017 between 11.30am and 4pm.

They managed to escape with a large amount of Indian wedding gold jewellery.

Police are investigating the burglary and would like to hear from anyone who may have seen or heard any suspicious activity in the area at the time of the offence.

Gold Mayoral chain stolen in Budleigh burglary

Police investigating a burglary at the Public Hall, Budleigh Salterton, have confirmed that a ceremonial gold chain (pictured) has been stolen.

The incident happened between 10.15pm on Wednesday 19th April 2017 and 10.50am the next day.

The front door of the building was forced and an untidy search of the building was made, with cupboards opened and further damage caused to internal doors.
