Dartmoor National Park Authority has today introduced a temporary ban on open fires and barbecues on all common land within the National Park. The ban has been introduced in response to the prolonged dry weather and the risk wildfires can pose to people and animals, as well as damage to property and the natural environment. People will be able to hone their grilling skills for free this week when the National BBQ Roadshow comes to the Devon County Show.
The three-day event takes place at Westpoint Showground, Clyst St Mary Exeter from Thursday through to Saturday.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service is asking the public to think twice about using disposable BBQs this holiday.
Wayne Rawlins, area manager for risk at Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue says:
“Every year we see so many preventable fires caused by disposable BBQs. They are a not only a fire risk when they’re being used, but also pose a risk when being disposed of, causing bin fires, and further damage to the environment to vegetation that has caught alight. A Newfoundland dog named Stanley was the surprise winner of a Weber barbeque.
Stanley’s owner Lucy Wakefield, who runs Barking Mad Home Hosting for Dogs, entered Stanley – who has his own Facebook account - into a social media giveaway.
With the winner chosen at random, Stanley’s name came up. After ascertaining that the dog had an owner who could cook sausages for him on his new barbeque, he was duly named the winner.
The pair visited Otter Garden Centres in Ottery St Mary to claim the prize. Staff and customers came to say hello to the impressive pooch.
