A leading housing association is set to build around 1,800 affordable homes in Devon over the next five years as part of a £1billion investment in the regional economy.

As the largest housing provider in the South West, LiveWest has more than 16,000 homes in Devon and currently owns more than 40,000 homes across the South West.

LiveWest has stepped up its investment in the county over the past year after building 381 affordable homes over the last year.

Independent housebuilder, Acorn Property Group, has celebrated a momentous milestone in the development of new homes at St. Leonards Quarter in Exeter, with a topping out ceremony.

A leading housing association is set to build 218 homes in rural areas across Devon over the next two years.

In a week when the housing sector celebrates Rural Housing Week – a yearly event organised by the National Housing Federation – LiveWest has demonstrated its commitment to rural housing by building 508 rural homes in the past two years.

LiveWest has invested close to £44m in rural homes during the last financial year having built 264 homes in rural areas.

81% of renters in the South West are unable to purchase a property over the next five years

Four out of five (81%) renters in the South West are unable to purchase a property over the next five years, according to the Affordable Housing Commission. Using the new approach set out in its recent report: ‘Defining and measuring housing affordability – an alternative approach’, it reveals that 430,000 households in the South West are living in unaffordable housing, a total of 18% of households in the region.

Landowners behind England’s 5,000 largest rural estates should be called upon to release land for affordable housing, according to The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).

Exeter council invests in a brighter future

Fourteen families have moved into new ecologically friendly, high tech homes built by Exeter City Council as part of a project to make the most of underused spaces in the city and create affordable housing for local people.

Another ten for Bonners Glen!

East Devon District Council and Sanctuary Group have worked together once again to provide extra affordable housing in Axminster.

In 1997 and 2010 Sanctuary completed the first and second phases of the re-development of formerly owned council land to provide 16 homes and a block of 8 flats.

New homes for Exmouth with priority given to local needs

Work is set to start this autumn to provide 18 much-needed affordable homes in Fore Street, Exmouth.
