Managing loneliness following a relationship breakdown

Taking place between the 9th and 15th of May, this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week will focus on loneliness, including its effect on our mental health and how we can all play a part in reducing loneliness in our communities.

The theme is particularly important following the pandemic when many people were isolated from loved ones and friends, with the government’s latest ‘Community Life Survey’ showing that approximately 3 million people in England feel lonely often or always.

Employers urged to consider mental health as employees return to the workplace

Managing employees experiencing mental ill-health is one of the biggest challenges employers face and never more so than during the current pandemic which has produced for some employees a perfect storm of isolation from colleagues, family and friends, the pressures of managing home working and worries about the future.

Even before the pandemic, research in 2016 and 2017 found that 1 in 6 employees in the UK reported mental ill-health each week and a third of fit notes with a known diagnosis note mental or behavioural disorders as the reason for absence.

Retail therapy with a difference will bring mental health to the high street when a charity opens its first-ever shop in Exmouth.

Pete’s Dragons will give shoppers the chance to look after their minds and bodies while bagging a bargain at its outlet in Rolle Street.

The cause has issued an appeal for help, donations and volunteers ahead of the store’s grand opening in later this month. Work is currently under way to transform the premises, formerly The Hub.
