Exeter builders merchant supports national campaign to help Ukrainian citizens

RGB Building Supplies is supporting the Builders Merchants Federation’s (BMF) national appeal to help the people of Ukraine by collecting essential items.

The Exeter branch of RGB has created a donation area where its staff, customers and those in the local area can drop-off items such as thermal clothing, bedding, sleeping bags, torches, first aid kits, toiletries, baby items, household cleaning items and non-perishable food.

All the donated items will be passed to the charity Feed the Hungry who will distribute them to those in need.

The RSPB are appealing for volunteers across Devon and Cornwall to help them carry out their annual Cirl Bunting Survey, between April-August of this year. People can register to take part in the survey on the Cirl Bunting Action Hub, visit: bit.ly/RSPBCirlHub

South Devon cattle are an inherent feature of the South Devon landscape, and doubtless we’ve all seen their rich red colour adding contrast to Devon’s abundant and lush green pastures.

A native breed, originally founded 400 years ago in South Hams, the South Devon is now a national phenomenon with some 25,000 at the most recent count dotting the British countryside from the tip of Cornwall to the far north of Scotland in the Orkneys.

All children aged five and over are eligible to have the COVID-19 vaccination from 5 April.

Bookings can be made online or by calling 119 from 2 April. The vaccination is not being given to this age group in school. Walk-in and pop-up clinics are advertised on NHS England’s site finder here , but please check that the clinic is offering vaccinations to this age group.

Having the COVID-19 vaccine reduces the likelihood of further disruption to their education, developing Long Covid and passing the infection onto vulnerable family members and friends.

Tickets still available for charity lecture for Ukrainian refugees

There’s still time to get tickets for a charity lecture to raise money for those fleeing the war in Ukraine.

Local historian Dr Todd Gray is giving the lecture at Exeter’s historic Guildhall on Wednesday 13 April at 2pm. Money raised from the event will go towards supporting Ukrainian refugees settling in Exeter.

Entitled 'Exeter & its own struggle for freedom' the lecture will explore similarities between the Exeter Blitz and the current invasion of Ukraine by the Russian army.
