A major step to boost Devon's economy after lockdown is being taken by the county council and partners Exeter College.

A new academy for future skills will be created to offer training for high-tech jobs in engineering, digital, construction and clean growth.

Devon County Council has agreed to purchase the vacant former Flybe Training Academy at Exeter Airport which closed when the airline went into administration. The deal will see Exeter College, the city’s Ofsted outstanding education provider, run the new academy.

Funding secured to encourage active business travel

Devon County Council has successfully secured funding to support a project to encourage active business travel as part of efforts to be carbon neutral by 2030.

The grant of almost £80,000 from the Department for Transport Energy Saving Trust eCargo Bike Fund will aim to increase the uptake of eCargo bikes for business travel and business deliveries in Exeter.

Thousands of Christians and over 25 church leaders from across the South West are taking part in a historic online prayer event in a few weeks’ time.

The event called South West Prays on 31st May at 8pm, could be the biggest prayer event that has ever taken place in the region.

Hendy Group’s service centres have re-opened across the south coast including those in Exeter.

The motor group has now opened all of its aftersales departments after initially keeping four sites open for essential maintenance to key worker vehicles.

A rising research star from the University of Exeter has won £100k to launch her work into depression as part of a prestigious grant scheme.

Dr Valentina Mosienko, a Lecturer at the University of Exeter Medical School, has received the grant from the Academy of Medical Sciences’ £4.9million Springboard scheme, designed to support promising early career researchers.

Investec has announced that it is extending its partnership with food banks across the UK and supplying food banks in 15 UK cities with essential supplies.

Aiming to feed around 3,800 people every week across the country, Investec will be supplying around 20,000 food items on a weekly basis to each of the 15 food banks, which will help support the wider 20 food banks and 63 distribution centres in those networks.
