Castle Drogo is calling for volunteers at an exciting time in the castle’s history as the project to make it watertight starts to reach its conclusion.

More volunteers than ever are needed to share Castle Drogo’s stories and become part of the team, whether for a couple of hours to spare or to volunteer more regularly.

Sparx, an Exeter-based learning technology company has won an Education Resource Award in the category of ‘Collaboration between School and Supplier’, in recognition of its partnership with the Ted Wragg Multi Academy Trust.

Announced on the 22nd March, the award recognises how the partnership has helped thousands of local schoolchildren to improve their skills and confidence in maths through the use of innovative teaching technology.

Local trades invited to free anti-theft tool marking event

RGB Building Supplies’ Exeter branch is inviting local trades to help protect their equipment against theft with a free tool marking event on Wednesday 10th April.

Between 8am and 2pm, Devon and Cornwall Police will be in the branch giving advice and handing out free tool marking kits supplied by RGB. The kits help deter theft, make it more difficult for stolen equipment to be sold on, and help reunite tools with their owners.

Visitors will also be able to pick up stickers to put in vehicles warning that there are no items of value inside.

Tim tackles second end-to-end walking challenge

Builder Tim Bradley is about to set off on his second end-to-end walking challenge in two years.

In 2017 he trekked 1,150 miles from the tip of Cornwall to the most northerly point of the British mainland in memory of his son, Rian, from Exmouth, who died in 2016.

On Saturday (April 6) he will begin the same hike but in the opposite direction, leaving from John O’Groats and aiming to reach Land’s End on June 9.

Local talent given opportunity to take centre stage at this year's Exeter Festival

Local bands and solo performers are being given the opportunity to take to the stage at this year’s all new Exeter Festival.

The call has gone out for local talent to appear at the Festival, which takes place during the first weekend of July.

Final weekend of lane restrictions at Exe Bridges

The final weekend of lane restrictions at Exe Bridges will take place this weekend (6 and 7 April).

Lane restrictions will again be in place in order to complete resurfacing and waterproofing work on Exe Bridge South.

Although the roundabout will not be closed at any point during the work, a number of lanes will be closed. Every effort is being made to minimise disruption but road users are being warned to expect delays if travelling via Exe Bridges.

£4.8m flood defence scheme for Starcross and Cockwood officially opened

Today (5th April 2019) has seen the official opening of Starcross and Cockwood’s £4.8 million flood defence scheme. The new coastal defences include four new flood gates, newly raised ground, slipway improvements and nearly 600 metres of raised and refurbished flood walls.

Alongside the project’s flood defence benefits, the project has included work to enhance habitats for local wildlife and to improve walkways for residents around Cockwood Harbour.
