Exeter recognised for ambition and vision to create a great place for the future

The Greater Exeter area has been recognised as one of five places in England that has the vision and ambition to create great places for the future.

Greater Exeter was today (Wednesday 13 March) named as part of the Future Place programme. This initiative is intended to unlock placemaking potential through quality in design, future thinking and knowledge sharing.

Mi-space team take to the road for Football to Amsterdam charity challenge

Intrepid Mi-space staff will be donning the lycra and getting on their bikes to take on the Football to Amsterdam challenge for the second year in a row to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer.

Team Mi-space will undertake the two-day, 145-mile bike ride from London to the Dutch capital from 7 to 9 June.

Last year the team raised an impressive £15,000 and for 2019 have set themselves the huge challenge of raising a whopping £50,000 for Prostate Cancer UK. They are well on their way to this target with more than £17,000 already pledged.

Police investigate reports of stalking in Exmouth

Police have released an e-fit of a man that they would like to speak to in connection with reports of stalking in Exmouth.

The incident was reported to have happened during the afternoon of Tuesday 5 March on Belvedere Road.

The victim, an 18-year-old woman, was reported to have been approached whilst walking home by a man who made threats to harm her. The man grabbed the victims arm and made further verbal threats before leaving on foot. The victim was uninjured.

Prestigious event to be first of its kind in the South West

A prestigious interior design event, the first of its kind to be held in the south west, will take place this month.

Design Central south west will be held at Rockbeare Manor, just outside Exeter on March 26 and 27.

New research into the value of public libraries released

New approaches and models for generating increased value for libraries and local communities have today been revealed by the University of Exeter Business School in conjunction with Libraries Unlimited.

Exeter woman runs half marathon to raise awareness of bowel cancer

Lorraine Ritchie, 59, from Exeter, will run the London Landmarks Half Marathon two months before her 60th birthday, raising funds for Bowel Cancer UK in memory of her mother and sister, who she lost to the disease within a year of each other.

After obtaining a place in the ballot, Lorraine has been joined by her daughter, niece, nephew and brother in law who will also be running for Bowel Cancer UK. Running has become a family endeavour, since entering a 10k race in support of Lorraine's sister Tina three years ago, who was undergoing chemo at the time.

With just a fortnight to go until the launch of the Big Pedal 2019, schools are being encouraged to sign up for the UK’s largest cycling, walking and scooting challenge.

Organised by the walking and cycling charity Sustrans, the competition runs from Monday 25 March to Friday 5 April and encourages young people to travel by bike, foot or scooter for their journey to and from school. Eutopia Homes have thanked residents for their feedback after holding a public exhibition on draft proposals to redevelop the Exmouth Junction, a former Network Rail site, on Prince Charles Road in Exeter.

Plans to develop the site with 465 new homes to buy and rent, as well as retirement homes were displayed to the public at St James Church on Wednesday 27th February.
