£1,000 Community Fund available to help with environmental project

For its next Well Built Community Fund, RGB Building Supplies is inviting groups, schools and charities to get in contact with details of environmental projects for the chance to receive £1,000 to spend at an RGB branch.

Whether a community group is looking to create an eco-friendly space, a school would like to add a green area to teach pupils about the importance of protecting the environment, or a charity would like materials to help protect an open space in the local area, RGB wants to hear about it.

Exeter pupils walk 10 miles to mark First World War centenary

On Friday 9th November, 100 students from Isca Academy in Exeter marked the centenary of the end of World War One by walking 10 miles from Exmouth to Exeter.

The walk was designed as an act of remembrance, retracing the steps of 100 young men who left their Devon homes to make a sacrifice for their country one hundred years ago.

Tag-Tastic! CLC Tag Rugby kicks off

Soggy skies did not dampen enthusiastic sporting spirits on Friday 9th November, when QE welcomed over 250 Year 5 & 6 students from primaries around Crediton, to their Barnfield Campus, for a highly anticipated annual Tag Rugby tournament. Last years’ winners Landscore and Tedburn, were both in attendance determined to defend their trophies.

A total of 24 teams were entered for the championship, with students from Cheriton Bishop, Winkleigh, Yeoford, Haywards, Bow, Copplestone and Sandford also taking part.

Community Interest Company, Beach Schools South West won the accolade of Best Rural Educational Business at the prestigious finals event held by the Rural Business Awards at Bath Racecourse.

Princesshay and Reiss hosted an exclusive VIP event on Thursday night for regional media and bloggers to celebrate the start of Christmas in Exeter. The event included an evening of fashion, beauty, fizz and canapes courtesy of Lloyd’s Lounge, along with a festive styling session from Reiss’ store manager, Helena Paterson. Saks, Goldsmiths and Kiel’s all provided a taste of their Christmas offerings at the event, and music was provided by local duo Conscious Club.

A group of young wheelchair users from an Exeter-based youth club run by the young disabled people’s charity Whizz-Kidz have celebrated completing a year of activities tackling youth loneliness. The group marked the occasion by taking part in a lively amateur dramatics workshop about the jungle at St Luke’s Sports and Science College, Exeter, on Saturday 10 November 2018. Over the last year, they have taken part in stop-action filmmaking, inflatable planetarium astronomy, rapping, and beat boxing sessions.

East Devon Karate Club are world beaters

Honiton-based, “Say Yes To Life” Karate club came Runners-up in the medal table at the annual Seiwakai Open International Karate tournament in London on Sunday at the club’s very first competitive appearance.

Say Yes To Life teaches traditional Goju-Ryu Karate (as seen in the original Karate Kid movie with ‘Mr Miyagi’ and ‘Daniel Son’). Sport karate is only occasionally taught which makes the team’s success at the tournament even more noteworthy.

Charity Christmas Tree Festival to light up Princesshay

Princesshay’s Roman Walk will once again become home to thirty-five Christmas trees as part of the Charity Christmas Tree Festival. The Christmas Tree Festival will be officially opened by the Lord Mayor on Thursday 22nd November at 6.15pm and will feature its own light switch on as part of the celebrations.
