Builders merchant raises over £10k for Children’s Hospice South West

RGB Building Supplies is delighted to announce it raised a fantastic £10,634 for its chosen charity Children’s Hospice South West over the past 12 months.

Due to the overwhelming support RGB received for its fundraising efforts, which included charity breakfast mornings, golf days, Easter competitions, and branch events, as well as staff members taking on various individual challenges, it will be continuing its support of CHSW and will again be undertaking numerous activities throughout 2018.

Get tails wagging at The Donkey Sanctuary’s Spring Family Fun Day and Dog Show

Sidmouth Donkey Sanctuary’s Spring Family Fun Day and Dog Show on Sunday 27 May promises to have something for everyone with a whole host of activities including, bouncy castles, go-karts, face-painting and live music from Vine and Dandy.

The highlight for many will be the dog show which features 15 different classes from perfect puppy to the prettiest pooch and child’s best friend to the waggiest tail. Entry costs just £1 for each class with prizes awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.

Communities across Devon can have their broken electrical items and gadgets fixed free of charge this summer at a series of community repair events held by Recycle Devon.

From Thursday 17 May to Friday 21 September. Recycle Devon will be visiting a number of Devon’s libraries to offer a free electrical repair service.

At these special REPAIR IT events, members of the public will be able to bring along any broken household electrical items, including computers, to be fixed by a team of expert menders at no cost.

Flood improvements due to start in Lympstone

Flood improvement works are scheduled to take place in Longmeadow Road in Lympstone later this month.

Repairs will be carried out to an old brick and pipe culvert under the road, starting from Monday 21 May, in order to reduce the flood risk to at least 10 properties. The culvert carries a small stream, classed as an “Ordinary Watercourse”, which flows underneath several properties and the road itself, before discharging into the main river, the Wotton Brook. Exeter care home resident reunited with message from late husband during WWII

Joy Wilkinson, a resident at RMBI Home Cadogan Court in Exeter, has been reunited with a recording from her husband Eric, an RAF serviceman, whilst he was serving in India during the Second World War. The message was found on an old record by a member of the public in Salisbury during a clear out and was played on BBC’s The One Show, to help reunite the recording with its rightful owner. Representatives from the RAF Association visited the Home on Tuesday 8 May to give the recording back to Joy and had a short chat with her which featured later on The One Show.

Free skin cancer advice in Princesshay

Free advice for anyone concerned about skin cancer will be available in Princesshay this weekend. Specialist nurses from the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital’s dermatology department will be at the Eastgate end of the precinct from 10am to 4pm on Saturday May 12.

With temperatures on the rise and summer just around the corner, Claire Facey and Sarah Sandford will be on hand to answer questions and offer confidential help and advice. The drop-in service is part of a partnership between FORCE Cancer Charity, the RD&E and Princesshay.

Devon has been selected as one of two parts of the UK to host a new initiative which will see thousands of the county’s 87,000 7-17 year-olds get together to learn to code and create with technology in a fun creative environment in Devon and Torbay Libraries.

Exeter Racecourse concluded its season against the backdrop of blue skies and a plethora of colour as ladies and gentlemen from across the region converged to celebrate Heavitree-sponsored Ladies Night.

Disability charity CEDA goes green

Exeter based charity CEDA (Community, Equality, Disability Action) is the latest South West organisation launching a new ‘go green’ initiative, raising awareness of small changes that can be made to help protect our planet.

CEDA delivers education and social opportunities with disabled people and works with over 150 individuals each week. The charity employs 90 staff and volunteers each of whom are being encouraged to make small changes one step at a time.
