Paralympian to coach competitive swimming squads

Exeter School is delighted to welcome Paralympian David Hill to coach competitive swimming squads this year.

David is a two-time Paralympian in swimming and triathlon and world and European medallist in swimming.

The British Champion was Team GB's youngest athlete at the Athens 2004 Paralympics and Top 10 Finisher in the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Paralympic Games.

Paralympian David said he felt privileged to add value to the coaching team at Exeter School and pass on his experience and knowledge to the next generation.

Disney On Ice announces Exeter tour dates

Disney On Ice has announced it will be bringing its latest tour Find Your Hero to Exeter.

The show will be visiting both Exeter and Aberdeen as it adds two new cities to the tour due to popular demand.

Graffiti on the rise in Exeter

Graffiti is on the rise in Exeter, with a councillor slamming the “idiots” responsible.

The council received more than 1,100 reports of graffiti between 1 April and 16 August – an average of eight a day. It’s meant that demand for the city council’s removal service has “remained high,” members of the strategic scrutiny committee have been told.

Over 3,000 hectares of new woodlands are set to be planted along England’s rivers and watercourses with backing from the country’s leading environmental organisations, Forestry Minister Lord Goldsmith announced on Saturday (25 September). Planting trees on and around riverbanks, or allowing them to grow naturally, can help to improve water quality by blocking the runoff of pollutants into rivers, manage flood risks by slowing the flow of water, boost biodiversity by creating new habitat corridors and make our rivers more climate resilient by providing shade and cooling water temperatures...

Where can I have my second Astra Zeneca dose?

People across Devon are being reminded it’s not too late to have the second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

More than thirteen thousand people across Devon are not fully vaccinated more than twelve weeks after their first dose. They include over seven and a half thousand people who initially had a first dose of the Astra Zeneca vaccine.

A study funded by Public Health England found that having only one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine gives around 30% protection against the predominant Delta variant but protection rises substantially after a second dose.

Booster vaccination programme begins in Devon

The first Covid-19 booster vaccinations have been administered in Devon.

Roy Warnes was among the first to have his booster dose at the Home Park vaccination site. Roy has volunteered at Home Park since it opened and explained why it was so important to get his booster vaccination today: “I think some people are getting a bit blasé and taking less care. I would say don’t hesitate to get your booster. I’ve got lots of friends who can’t wait to come.”

Latest consultation launched on Heavitree and Whipton streets

A second round of consultation has been launched on changes to streets in the Heavitree and Whipton areas of Exeter.

More than 570 people took part in the initial consultation last year.
