Can Do Active launch new Couch to 5k

New health and wellbeing initiative, Can Do Active, are launching a new 12-week Couch to 5k programme in Exeter this Autumn, starting in October.

There will be two running groups a week, a weekday group meeting every Tuesday morning (9:30am - 10:30am) from the 5th October, and a weekend group meeting every Saturday morning (10:30am - 11:30am) from the 9th October - both starting at Exwick Playing Fields.

Crowds and sunshine come out for Devon Stage of the AJ Bell Tour of Britain

The AJ Bell Tour of Britain was greeted with a welcome that was as warm as the temperatures in Devon today (Monday 6 September).

Devon hosted Stage Two of this year’s race, with the professional riders starting in Sherford under blue skies, matching the AJ Bell Leader’s jersey worn by Olympic silver medallist Wout Van Aert at the start of the day after his victory in the opening stage in Cornwall.

The race may have been delayed by a year but the atmosphere at the start and right along the route made it well worth the wait.

Aldi donates 14,546 meals to Devon's charities over the summer school holidays

Local charities in Devon helped Aldi donate 14,546 meals to people in need over the summer school holidays.

The supermarket paired up its stores with local charities, community groups and foodbanks to donate surplus food, with the majority of meals going to causes supporting families and children.

The donation is part of Aldi’s commitment to donate 10 million meals across the country in 2021, in partnership with community giving platform Neighbourly.

So far this year, Aldi stores across the UK have already donated over six million meals to good causes.

Thomas Godwin has been appointed Chief Executive of Citizens Advice Exeter and Citizens Advice Torbay.

People requiring clinically urgent blood tests have been assured they will still be able to have them as surgeries and health care settings are faced with a shortage of equipment used for carrying out blood tests.

A global supply issue is affecting the availability nationally of the blood tubes used for blood tests and this is now having an impact on the number of tests that are being carried out.

The shortage means surgeries and other healthcare settings are having to restrict the number of blood tests they can carry out and reduce non-clinically urgent testing....

Churches in Devon are being encouraged to submit their entries to Ecclesiastical Insurance’s ‘Good News’ competition before the deadline in September.

The specialist insurer is looking for churches to share their good news stories from the past 18 months, showcasing how they’ve supported their local communities during a challenging time. The winning church will scoop a total prize of £7,500.
