South West holiday-makers will be doing their bit for the environment when booking their travel through the UK’s first carbon neutral coach holiday company, operating out of the region from November.

Housebuilding at the landmark development Nursery Gardens in Exeter has stormed ahead with the first two homes completed and another 18 homes set to complete by the end of 2021.

Devon designated an 'enhanced response area'

The Government has designated Devon, Cornwall, Plymouth, Torbay and the Isles of Scilly, an ‘enhanced response area’, in response to high case rates of coronavirus. It means additional support will be available from the Government, to those areas.

Community groups across Mid Devon and Teignbridge have quadrupled the amount of waste they have put to beneficial use over the last year despite three lockdowns.

Exeter-based illustrator-animator Leo Jamelli is collaborating with University of Exeter academics Dr Siobhan O’Dwyer and Dr Catriona McKenzie on an emotive contemporary art project entitled Spotlight on Care.

Over 600 tonnes of plastic waste generated by children’s lost school jumpers every year in the South West

Research has revealed that children’s lost school jumpers generate over 600 tonnes of plastic waste per year in the South West of England, the equivalent of almost 40 million plastic bottles ending up in landfill.

School jumpers often contain up to 65 percent polyester, which is a type of plastic. With up to 2 million school jumpers lost permanently every year in the South West, these alone are contributing significantly to the 40kg plastic waste generated annually by each household in the UK.
