Lord Myners to retire as Chancellor of the University of Exeter after five years

Lord Myners of Truro will retire as Chancellor of the University of Exeter after five years in the role.

Paul Myners CBE, who will be 73 in April and a former Government Minister who has led some of the UK’s best known businesses, will relinquish the role at the end of 2021.

Cornishman Lord Myners, who was brought up in Truro by his adoptive parents, took over the mantle of Chancellor from Baroness Floella Benjamin in July 2016.

The Missing Salmon Alliance is delighted to welcome two new members, Fisheries Management Scotland and The Rivers Trust.

In 2019 a group of conservation focused organisations came together to drive action and save our wild Atlantic salmon from extinction by combining expertise, coordinating activities and advocating effective management solutions. Calendar raises over £3,000 for Devon and Cornwall air ambulance charities

The sale of RGB Building Supplies’ ‘Love where you live’ 2021 calendar has raised £3,140.50 for Devon Air Ambulance and Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust.

The calendar features photographs that celebrate the region. All the photos were taken by south west residents, including a picture of Exeter Quay by Kate Coldrick. Everyone who had a photo chosen for inclusion received a £100 voucher to spend at their local RGB branch.

Coronavirus vaccination programme in Devon expands to next groups

Tens of thousands more people across Devon are being contacted from this week, inviting them to make an appointment for their first coronavirus vaccination, as the programme enters a new phase.

People aged 65 and over and those who are clinically vulnerable (JCVI priority groups 5 and 6), together with an expanded group of clinically extremely vulnerable people, are now in line to receive the life-saving jab.

Tesco Health Charity Partnership fundraising appeal in Devon shows a little help can go a long way

Devon shoppers will be able to give a big boost this month to three life-changing charities that have been heavily impacted by COVID-19.

Tesco stores across Devon are supporting the Tesco Health Charity Partnership’s appeal to raise money for Cancer Research UK, the British Heart Foundation and Diabetes UK from 26 to 28 February.

Tesco customers can make a donation by rounding up their shop in store to the nearest £1 at self-service checkouts. All funds raised will go directly to the three charities.

Road users are being asked to travel with care this weekend as rain is forecast and flooding likely in several areas.

A Yellow Weather Warning is in place with heavy rain expected intermittently from mid-morning Friday 18 February to midday Sunday 20 February.

Over the three days many areas will see between 10-20mm of rainfall, with as much as 150mm falling over the three days on top of Dartmoor.

Additionally, there is the potential for shorter lived, more intense spells of rain almost anywhere.

New cycle camera trial underway

A new cycle camera trial is being carried out by Devon County Council to help improve safety for cyclists.

The County Council has enlisted the help of Ride On, the bike recycling charity in Exeter, as well the Exeter Cycle Campaign, Met Office, RD&E Hospital and Exeter Science Park to try out the helmet-mounted video cameras to capture footage of dangerous driving.
