Every GP practice in Devon offering appointments to eligible patients as four more centres open their doors

Four more GP-led vaccination centres are opening in Devon today (15 January) and tomorrow, meaning every practice in the county is offering appointments to eligible patients.

This week, patients in priority groups have been contacted to book appointments at new centres starting at:

  • Culm Valley Integrated Centre for Health, Cullompton

  • Lords Meadow Leisure Centre, Crediton

  • Sherborne House, Newton Abbot

  • St Thomas Health Centre, Exeter

Ding-ding! Here’s the moment a Devon bus driver wins a £45,000 set of wheels and £10,000 in cash from online competition company BOTB .

Matthew Hector, 24, from Exeter, was just about to start his shift when BOTB’s Christian Williams video-called him to tell him he’d scooped a brand-new modified Motech BMW M135i xDrive.

Devon to launch community testing programme

Devon County Council is working with partners to ensure that rapid ’30 minute’ community testing for people without Covid-19 symptoms will soon be available across Devon.

It follows the Government announcement on January 10 that it is expanding asymptomatic community testing across the UK.

Approximately one in three people who have coronavirus do not display symptoms.

Community testing will help to find those who have COVID-19 but do not have symptoms and need to isolate and who may inadvertently be spreading the virus.

Wheels 2 Work has received a major boost in the South West, with the launch of Wheels 2 Work South West (W2WSW). This significantly builds upon the work of Devon Wheels 2 Work which has been providing transport support for those accessing work and education since it was first launched in 2001.

In a further development, W2WSW has become a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) and has applied to become a charity.

The Wheels 2 Work programme was originally established as an amalgamation of three existing programmes which was renamed to Devon Wheels 2 Work in 2006....

Work underway on new junction

Work has started on the next junction to be developed as part of the infrastructure development on the outskirts of Exeter.

The School Access Junction is a new signalised junction off the A379, between the Devon Hotel Roundabout and the existing junction with Chudleigh Road.

It is part of the £55 million infrastructure project to the south west of Exeter which will enable the development of 2,500 homes and employment.

This latest junction will support the construction of a new all-through school including both primary and secondary provision and new homes....

Devon’s Director of Public Health, Steve Brown, has called on us all to be extra vigilant in following the Government’s COVID-19 lockdown rules, and to “think twice” before we leave our homes.

This follows a stark warning from the Chief Medical Officer, Professor Chris Whitty, that the next few weeks will be “the worst” of the pandemic for the NHS, and that the UK will go through the “most dangerous time” in the weeks before the vaccination rollout has an impact.

BCG vaccine trial extends across Devon, in partnership with RD&E

A large global trial designed to test the theory that the widely used BCG vaccine might help protect against COVID-19 amongst healthcare staff and care home workers in the UK continues to recruit participants.

The Exeter study site started recruitment in October and is ongoing in the UK and globally. Now, the University of Exeter has partnered with the Royal Devon & Exeter NHS Trust (RD&E) to recruit staff, and has opened new clinics in Teignmouth and North Devon

Parents of 5-12 year old children from Devon who suffer from anxiety are being invited to join a research study looking at the best way to deliver treatment for child anxiety problems when there are social-distancing restrictions in place due to COVID-19.

Exeter residents views invited on Electric Vehicle charge-point proposals

Exeter residents are invited to give their views on proposals to install rapid-charging electric vehicle (EV) charge points at 10 locations across the City.

The locations proposed are Barrack Road, Belmont Road, Cowick Hill, Hanover Road, Haven Road, Howell Road, Kinnerton Way, Langaton Lane, St Leonards Road and Whipton Lane.
