Sports Club among good causes benefitting from Community Lottery

An all-action sports club that attracts members ranging from ten years old to 52 is just one of more than 120 good causes in Exeter that are benefitting from ticket sales for a community lottery.

Exeter City Ultimate Frisbee likes nothing better than to let fly with a perfectly propelled disc.

Yet the club, which began in 2019, is always looking for ways to raise funds to keep the club going.

So when Exeter Community Lottery started out in 2023, the Club jumped at the chance to get involved.

East Devon Karate Club are world beaters

Honiton-based, “Say Yes To Life” Karate club came Runners-up in the medal table at the annual Seiwakai Open International Karate tournament in London on Sunday at the club’s very first competitive appearance.

Say Yes To Life teaches traditional Goju-Ryu Karate (as seen in the original Karate Kid movie with ‘Mr Miyagi’ and ‘Daniel Son’). Sport karate is only occasionally taught which makes the team’s success at the tournament even more noteworthy.

City businesses cycle for charity

Exeter Business Club’s chosen charity this year is CEDA, the Exeter based organisation that offers learning and social opportunities to disabled adults and children. CEDA’s Craig Bowden, seen here centre left, received a cheque for £1,500 from the club’s secretary Ben Didier.

Every year EBC chooses a city-based charity as their chosen cause. Funds are raised through membership fees and a variety of social events. Club members even joined in CEDA’s recent cycling challenge by riding three static bikes and pedalling away throughout one of their meetings.

Local tug of war club aiming for national championship titles

Haldon Tug of War Club are set to compete in the National Outdoor Tug of War Championships on Saturday 16 June in Oxfordshire. The Tug of War Association (TOWA) is holding its 2018 competition at the third annual Grove and Wantage Extravaganza, with tug of war teams from across the country competing for gold medals in different weight classes.

Exeter City staff join PCUK charity cycle from London to Amsterdam

A team of cyclists from business across Exeter will be taking part in a charity bike ride from London to Amsterdam, including three members of staff from Exeter City FC.

The team, which includes our hospitality and events manager Jake Wood, finance assistant Lynn Travis and media manager Simon Larkins, are taking on the 145-mile trip to the Dutch capital to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK.

Amy Jones, having battled with her weight over the years, has found a solution for herself, and a way to help others.

At one time being a fit and healthy mum seemed out of reach for Amy. She was nearly 17 stone and struggling with health issues and anxiety.

Exeter City's grandstand seats go up for sale

EXETER City supporters will have the opportunity to own a historic piece of their beloved club when work starts this summer on a new grandstand at St James Park.

Around £3.5million worth of improvements are scheduled at the ground over the coming year. At the centre of this work will be the demolition of the Old Grandstand, which is sponsored by Stagecoach, and is the oldest structure at the ground, dating back to 1926.

The football club is working with Exeter City Council, which owns the stand, to give fans the opportunity to buy seats before it is demolished.

Honiton’s Helen shortlisted for Devon Sports Coach of the Year

Honiton Gymnastics Club high-performance coach Helen Reddy has been shortlisted for the Coach of the Year Award in the Devon Sports Awards 2017.

The Level 5 gymnastics coach, who has been involved in the sport for more than 30 years, will now attend a glittering awards ceremony at Sandy Park in June.

Helen has been recognised by awards’ judges thanks to her tireless work at both Honiton Gymnastics club (where she is a coach and board member) and at Ivybridge Community College (where she is Head of Performing Arts and runs the gymnastics academy).
