Exeter school’s wildlife garden gets new lease of life

Volunteers from EDF Energy have helped Devon Wildlife Trust improve a wildlife garden at an Exeter school, as part of the ongoing Exeter Wild City project.

The garden at Stoke Hill Infants School now has much improved disabled access while new homes have been created for wildlife including beetles, newts and frogs.

Luke Workman from Devon Wildlife Trust said: "During a planning visit with school Head Teacher Sarah Mackay we decided to widen the path around the whole of the garden to make it accessible for all. The job required a large team so we knew EDF’s Helping Hands...

40-strong EDF team to take part in GWR

Almost 40 staff members from EDF Energy’s Gadeon House office in Exeter have rallied together and entered into Exeter’s Great West Run, taking place on Sunday 19 October.

The group hopes to raise £3,000 in aid of EDF Energy’s charity partner Marie Curie, with all the funds going to help Marie Curie Nurses provide more free care to people with terminal illnesses in their own homes and in the charity’s nine hospices. Almost £500 has already been raised as part of an office charity day, where the team held a raffle and a cake sale.

Energy bills will rise above inflation for 17 years

Water and Energy bills could continue to rise above inflation for at least another 17 years according to government watchdog, the National Audit Office (NAO).

The NAO predicts that bills will be pushed up due to plans to replace the UK’s aging infrastructure at a cost of £310 billion.

Two thirds of the £310bn is expected to come from the private sector which will ultimately be paid for from consumers’ water and energy bills.
