Look out for fly-tippers warning after bins used to dump building waste

People in Exeter are being urged to keep an eye out for instances of fly-tipping after three litter bins in the city were used to dump builder’s waste in, including what looks like used asbestos material.

The City Council said three litter bins in Burnthouse Lane had been sealed off, whilst a specialist asbestos removal company took the contents away.

The disposal costs are likely to be around £450.

Nearly 300 landings at Exeter hospital’s new helipad

On 1 March 2023, it will be three years since a state-of-the-art helipad opened at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital, thanks to a £1million donation from the HELP Appeal. Since 2020, it has seen 283 landings from air ambulance helicopters, which is on average, nearly two landings every week.

Man charged with murdering woman in Ludwell Valley Park

Police have charged a man in connection to a death of a women in Exeter over the weekend.

Police were called at around 4pm on Saturday 18 February following reports of an assault in Ludwell Valley Park, which is in the Wonford area of Exeter.

Lorna England, aged 74 from Southbrook Road, Exeter, died at the scene.

Cameron Davis aged 30 of Exeter Road, Exmouth, has been charged with murder. He is being held in remand and is due to appear before Exeter Magistrates’ Court today, Monday 20 February.

Police have created a Major Incident Public Reporting (MIPP) page as part of the investigation into the murder of a 74-year-old woman in Ludwell Valley Park in Exeter on Saturday 18 February.

Murder investigation launched after woman dies in Exeter

Devon and Cornwall police have launched a murder investigation following the death of a woman in Exeter today.

Police were called at around 4pm on Saturday 18 February following reports of a woman having been seriously assaulted in Ludwell Valley Park, in the Wonford area of Exeter.

Emergency services attended, but a local woman in her 70’s was declared deceased at the scene; her next have kin have been informed and is being supported by specialist officers.

FoodCycle Exeter serves 1,000 meals

FoodCycle Exeter, a project which serves community meals made from surplus food has reached a significant milestone: 1,000 meals in just over a year. The project, which has grown from strength to strength, has served over 1,000 three-course meals every Tuesday night since March 2016 in Wonford Community Centre. In the last year, the volunteer team has saved over a tonne of food from going in the bin and instead used it to cook and serve 1,000 meals as well as give away over 350 parcels of food for guests to take home. Wonford Community Centre held an open day at its recently refurbished Phoenix Suite on Saturday. Jo Evans, community champion from the Tesco Exeter Vale store and colleagues from the store team went along on the day to hand out a variety of refreshments. A team from the Tesco Extra Exeter Vale store donated has donated Tesco gift cards in the value of £100 for this year’s Wonford Community Centre & Learning Centre over 50’s raffle.

Decisions made about residents’ parking in Wonford

At the meeting of the Exeter Highways and Traffic Orders Committee on 12th July it was decided to approve a residents’ parking scheme for the area north of the Chestnut Avenue roundabout on Burnthouse Lane on both sides of Rifford Road.

The only exception to this will be that part of Woodwater Lane to the south-east of Rifford Road, on the park side.

The area to the south of the roundabout on both sides of Burnthouse Lane will not be part of a residents’ parking scheme, however there will be several places where double yellow lines will be introduced to tackle parking...

Simpson Millar Solicitors is holding free legal surgeries beginning on the 6 July 2016 from 10.30 am to 1.00 pm.

The sessions will be held at Wonford Community and Learning centre, and will provide legal advice on many areas of law such as community care, court of protection, and life changing injuries.
