Rufiji Ngoma: A Charity Gig
On Saturday 25th January Rufiji Leprosy Trust are organising a charity fundraising gig at The Phoenix in Exeter.
The gig features four of the most exciting Exeter bands around at the moment for an evening of funk, soul, indie and rock. The Beacons have been featured on Channel 4’s Hollyoaks, Moscow Magazine are regularly played on BBC6 Music, and Lion The Weak and The Rotten Apple Orchestra both feature UoE students.
Rufiji Leprosy Trust administers and fundraises for the Kindwitwi Leprosy Care Centre in the Rufiji district of Tanzania. Leprosy remains a major problem in the region, while the Kindwitwi centre assists in finding and treating sufferers and ex-sufferers, promoting self-sufficiency and educating to overcome the stigma that surrounds the disease.
With World Leprosy Day being on Sunday 26 January we are looking to raise awareness of leprosy within the UK, as many people believe it no longer exists or don't know anything about it. Leprosy does still exist but it can now be treated, and sufferers can be cured if the disease is caught early enough.
Doors open at 7pm, with tickets available from The Phoenix website for £5, with proceeds going to the charity. Tickets can also be purchased on the night.
