Scarecrow Festival
East Budleigh Village will be holding its annual Scarecrow Festival from Friday 13 to Sunday 15 June. There will be an entertaining and varied programme of events together with a fabulous display of scarecrows throughout the village.
The Village Hall will provide the main focus for the Festival. Bacon Baps, Cream Teas and hot and cold drinks will be served from 11am - 4pm on both Saturday and Sunday. Stalls will be selling Books, Plants, Cakes and Bric-a-Brac and there will be a Tombola and a Raffle. The Friends of All Saints East Budleigh will also have a stall promoting their fund-raising activities. Numerous events for children will take place in the adjoining playground and the famous Duck Race will be held at 2.15pm on Saturday and 2.30pm on Sunday. Students from Bicton College will be helping with the activities for children and by displaying their own scarecrows.
Various displays will be mounted including a display of Old Books and Documents and one of Knitting at All Saints; a display of Art from Drakes and Otterton Schools at Salem Chapel; and displays of Scarecrows and Muffin the Mule puppets made by pupils at Drakes School. Tours of All Saints Tower will be available on both days from 2 - 5.30pm - a rare opportunity to see the workings of the Church Bells and to enjoy a birds’ eye view of East Budleigh.
The Festival begins with the concert at All Saints Church at 7pm on Friday evening featuring a welcome return of the Organ Duo, Andrew Millington and David Davies, performing a programme of mainly classical music. On Saturday at 3pm there will be an illustrated talk by Emeritus Professor David Buss entitled ‘The Art of Scaring Crows’ in the Church Hall, and the Festival ends with Songs of Praise at All Saints Church at 6pm on Sunday.
