Silverton’s drama troupe, the Silverton Luvvies, is gearing up for its next production, a murder mystery play set over six decades – “The Secret of Willoughby Hall”.

This follows the group’s sell-out production in 2014, which honoured the lives of Silverton’s WW1 soldiers, “Trenches and Wenches”.  The play, as with all of the Silverton Luvvie’s productions, is an original work written by director Portia Smith and Iain Gonoude (in cahoots with the Luvvies themselves).

The three-act play, set in the fictional Willoughby Hall, starts in the 1950s and takes the audiences on a mysterious journey full of murder and mayhem until the present day. The three acts are all distinct in style, moving from Agatha Christie, to The Sweeney in the 1970s, and ending with homage to Nordic crime and The Killing. Over the decades there are several detectives and even more dead bodies, all sure to keep the audience intrigued and wondering “whodunit?”.

“It was always going to be hard to follow the success of Trenches and Wenches, which really captured the imagination of the whole village, so this year we decided to do something unlike anything we have done before,” comments Portia Smith Director of the Luvvies. “Our murder mystery spans decades, brings to life some of the most loved detective dramas, and showcases the work of no less than four detectives and leaves behind six bodies.  And, of course, it will keep the audience guessing until the very end.”
The play is suitable for families, though being a murder mystery there will be death and some adult language.

Tickets are £6 per adult and £2 per child.

Curtain is up at 7.30, and the play runs for about 1.5 hours (including intervals).

Tickets are available from Silverton Spar, by calling Carrie Martin on 01392 860 670 and there will be limited tickets available on the door. There is also a bar for pre and during show drinks.
