A TIMELESS tale of love set in exotic ancient China is coming to Silverton this February half-term as Aladdin swops the 55B bus to ride in on his magic carpet!

The Mid Devon village will be transformed into enchanting old Peking fit for a beautiful princess, a dastardly uncle, a clever genie and love-struck Aladdin in this family-favourite pantomime – the first to be staged in the village for almost 30 years!

Staged by the Silverton Luvvies, this modern take on a time-less classic promises laughs, love, intrigue and, er, two idiotic policemen!

Grimm Times for Silverton: Dark tales performed at starlit summer shows

SILVERTON’s summer bliss is set to be shattered as dark fairy tales take centre stage in the Mid Devon village.

Strange creatures, characters and much-loved names from the brothers Grimm will star in a series of stories performed outside by The Silverton Luvvies old and young – as a host of new stars will join the much loved troupe.

Using the backdrop of the village’s medieval church and performed in a magical garden, the 200-year-old German fairy tales will come alive for two nights this July as the players tackle a number of the well, and less well, known stories....

Silverton’s players, the Silverton Luvvies, have sharpened their senses in the countdown to the challenge of a new mystery – The Curious Case of the Clockmaker’s Daughter.

Fire crews tackle blaze near Exeter

A house in Silverton was badly damaged by fire on Wednesday evening (2 March).

Firefighters were called to a blaze at a property in Poundsland shortly after 8pm.

Two appliances from Exeter were sent to the scene. Upon arrival crews requested further pumps which came from Topsham, Tiverton and Crediton, along with the command unit from Honiton.

The fire involved a two storey house, garage and a gymnasium.

The cause of the fire was believed to be accidental; crews had extinguished the fire by midnight.

Pints in hand - The Dawdling Dads might not look busy but really they’re hard at work in their Silverton local planning their fundraising for a charity walk.

The group of new dads are taking part in the 12k Hospiscare FUGBY12 men’s walk on Saturday March 21.

The three key detectives featuring in the Silverton Luvvie’s “The Secret of Willoughby Hall” (19-21st February in Silverton Village Hall) represent the 60 year time span of this murder mystery.

Sarah Lunch (or Lorraine Hopkinson) is a detective in the style of “The Killing”, DS Clinton (Peter Williams) is straight out of “The Sweeny” and the magnifying glass-toting Jane Featherstonehaugh (Heather Sheppard) is from the pages of Agatha Christie.
