Foot Anstey welcomes 12 work experience students to its Bristol, Exeter and Southampton offices
Foot Anstey LLP has welcomed its first cohort of Year 12 and 13 work experience students as part of its Activate Work Experience Programme in its Bristol, Exeter and Southampton offices.
During their time at the firm, the students gained valuable insights into life at a commercial law firm. Also, the students took part in a recruitment workshop helped on key skills, such as CV writing, interviewing, and presenting, which will help them when applying for university and/or seeking jobs in the future.
The firm was joined by: Sam Baillie, Millie Edland, Isabelle Lenny and Renee Weber in Bristol, George Kendall, Isabella Patterson, Oliver Saunders, Emily Snow and Alice Stoate in Exeter and Tegan Hamerston, Millie Sandom and Riyan Shah in Southampton.
Foot Anstey launched two work experience programmes earlier this year dedicated to activating and accelerating a new generation of lawyers and helping create more diversity in the profession. The firm's Activate Programme was open to all Year 12 and 13 students, while its Accelerate Programme is aimed at Undergraduate students and will take place in the Summer of 2022.
A few of the students shared their thoughts on the experience:
George Kendall (Exeter office) – "Foot Anstey takes part in a lot of events near my college in Exeter. Last year I spoke to one of the Partners at Foot Anstey at a law event, which gave me some insight into what Foot Anstey does. So, when the opportunity came up to apply for the work experience scheme I jumped at the chance."
Isabelle Lenny (Bristol office) – "The opportunity was presented to me by my school's career advisor, Ellen Marsh. It looked like an interesting experience. I found the application process easy to understand and it enabled me to get my personality across."
Riyan Shah (Southampton office) – "Everyone at the firm was incredibly forthcoming and approachable. I am currently doing an EPQ on Intellectual Property Law and Claudia Fox (a Trainee Solicitor) immediately organised for me to speak to an IP lawyer and ask questions about the work they do. The support over the last few days has been amazing!"
Renee Webber (Bristol office) – "I knew about Foot Anstey as I'd seen it on social media and in the local papers. I wanted to use this the work experience scheme to ask questions to lawyers and see what the day-to-day life is like for them."
Debbie Moors, Early Careers Specialist at Foot Anstey said: "It is incredibly rewarding to give opportunities to Year 12 and Year 13 students located near our offices the opportunity to experience what a law firm does day-to-day and help them build a better understanding of what a career in law could look like.
"The students took everything in their stride and produced excellent work over the course of the programme. We are looking forward to welcoming Undergraduate students taking part in our Accelerate Programme during the summer."
