The entrepreneurial partner behind the transformation of one of the South West’s leading law firms has started his own business offering advice to business owners seeking to grow their businesses and improve employee wellbeing.

Robert Camp led Stephens Scown LLP for eight years through a period of growth and success, stepping down in 2019. During his tenure Stephens Scown’s turnover doubled to £20 million and the firm was named UK Law Firm of the Year and one of the best employers in the country, consistently ranking in the Sunday Times 100 Best Companies list.

Robert also led the firm through its transition to employee ownership – a move that was unprecedented among large law firms. In a sector that has always been traditionally very hierarchical, Stephens Scown’s employees now enjoy an equal share of the firm’s profits.

“I’ve always been keen to try new things, challenge the status quo and look for new ways to solve problems,” says Robert Camp. “In my new business I will help business leaders look at their organisation with fresh eyes, guiding them through ways to drive business growth and increase employee engagement and wellbeing. I’ve shown at Stephens Scown that by being a good employer and putting the wellbeing of your people at the heart of your strategy, growth and financial success will follow.”

In his new business Robert Camp will be advising professional service firms, businesses that supply professional firms, as well as start up and scale up businesses.

When he stepped down as Managing Partner, Robert became Stephens Scown’s Director of Strategic Innovation. He will continue with that role on a part time basis along with his new business.

Robert also has a number of other Board positions, including as a Director of nuBright Limited, a joint venture company created between Stephens Scown and Bluegrass Group, which provides data protection and cyber security services.

Robert is also a Non Executive Director for property consultants Vickery Holman, Board Director for the Exeter Festival of South West Food and Drink, Trustee and Director for New Wine and a Director for Hope for Justice, an anti-trafficking and modern slavery charity.
