Residents of Cranbrook and neighbouring parishes are being encouraged to take part in a community consultation on how Devon’s newest town will grow and develop.

East Devon District Council are inviting all those living or working in and around Cranbrook to have their say on a range of subjects as part of the ‘Your town, Your future, Your say’ consultation which runs for 6 weeks from 13 June – 25 July 2016.

Comments are being sought on topics including health and wellbeing, culture, sport and community, economy and enterprise, energy and climate change, transport, landscape and biodiversity, design and housing which have been published in a ‘Cranbrook Issues and Options Report’.

Responses to the consultation will inform the Council’s planning policy for the town in the future, culminating in the adoption of a Development Plan Document (DPD).

Consultation responses can be made online at www.eastdevon.gov.uk /cranbrook and there are also a number of in-person events so people can find out more and have their say.

Consultation sessions are taking place at existing events and activities around Cranbrook during June and July including the toddler group, coffee morning, youth bus, the market and at the end of the school day.

There will also be events held at Cranbrook’s Café @143 on Saturday 18 June between 10am - 2pm (free cup of tea or coffee for those that complete the survey) and on Sunday 26 June between 12pm - 4pm at the annual ‘Cranbrook Day’ celebrations at the Cranbrook Education Campus.

Mark Williams, Chief Executive of East Devon District Council said: “This is the first major consultation to engage residents of Cranbrook and give people an opportunity to influence how their town grows and what they would like to see happen.

We have made amazing progress over the past five years. Cranbrook has grown from zero to over 1,300 homes and in the next five it will more than double in size. In 20 year’s time Cranbrook will be as big as Barnstaple!

The schools, shops, transport, country park, play areas and homes we have now were planned before the first residents moved in. Today there is a population of more than 3,000 people and it is time for those residents to get involved in steering the future development of their hometown.”

The ‘Your town, Your future, Your say’ consultation will help to determine the future of Cranbrook and in its quest to become a happy, healthy and successful town suitable for all.
