A driver sustained life-threatening injuries following a single-vehicle collision on the A377 at Crediton on Saturday night (10 July).

Emergency services were called around 10.50pm after the silver Peugeot 206 Estate left the road near Hookway Cross and struck a granite post and trees.

The 41-year-old male driver from Crediton sustained serious head and chest injuries which were described as life-threatening.

He was taken to Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital and later transferred to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth where he remains in a serious condition.

The road was closed for nine hours for officers to conduct a forensic examination of the scene.

Officers from the Serious Collisions Investigation Unit are investigating the incident and appealing for witnesses to come forward.

They are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have seen the Peugeot travelling towards Crediton on the A377 between 10.30pm and 10.45pm.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting log number 1046 of 10/07/15.
