Maynard School appoints Pre-Prep head
The Maynard School has announced the appointment of Miss Sarah Reddaway as Head of the newly established Pre-Prep Department. Sarah, who was brought up and educated in Devon, currently works at The Hampshire School in Chelsea where she is Head of Phase One (years 1 – 3) and also the Year One Class Teacher.
“Sarah was an outstanding candidate and we are thrilled to offer her this position. She is very experienced in the Pre-Prep field, clearly loves her job and I’m sure will be a wonderful addition to the staff here at The Maynard,” said Headmistress, Bee Hughes.
“These are very exciting times for the school as we expand to meet our market. Our decision to open a Pre-Prep department has already generated a lot of interest and I am delighted that Sarah will be here to oversee its inception.”
The school has already thrown its doors open to a new influx of Year 2 pupils at the start of this term – for the first time since after the Second World War when numbers dwindled and the Pre-Prep and Kindergarten were closed down. Interest for places for Reception and Year One pupils starting in September 2016 is also already building as word travels about this new venture at one of the top ten schools in the country.
“It’s a thrilling and very exciting time for me personally and for the Maynard School,” said Sarah Reddaway. “To be at the start of any new venture is really exciting. But to be helming such a fantastic new initiative at this amazing school, in the county I love most is off the scale and a huge honour!”
Sarah is no stranger to the area having been educated at Torquay Girls' Grammar School before graduating from Rolle College, University of Plymouth with a BEd Primary (Hons) and then teaching in the locality for five years. In her quest to gain more experience she moved to London and worked her way up the ranks to her current Head’s position. “Five years on and I’m now ready to return to my roots and I greatly look forward to properly taking up my new position in January,” she said. “In the meantime, however, there is still plenty for me to do and I’m looking forward to familiarising myself with The Maynard and other members of staff at the Discovery Morning on Saturday, 3rd October.
“This is a great initiative allowing current and prospective Pre-Prep and Junior School pupils to take part in a number of different activities such as Bollywood Dancing, Yoga, Tennis, Science and Drama (amongst others). Best of all, as far as parents are concerned, it’s totally free and keeps your daughter busy on a possibly wet and dismal morning! And, for me, it means I can truly get to grips ahead of time with my pupils and colleagues!”
