The scaffolding is down and the paint pots have been put away, as ABode Exeter looks forward to welcoming local residents and guests from farther afield with a refreshed new look.  Taking seriously its role as a custodian of some of the UK’s finest buildings, Andrew Brownsword Hotels unveils the new ABode Exeter, complete with restored façade, a new Cathedral Lounge, and a fresh new Café Bar & Grill.

Recognised as the oldest hotel in England, ABode Exeter now proudly displays a new, restored frontage, complete with a new ‘Royal Clarence Hotel’ sign restored to its original location at the upper level of the building, window boxes and a re-opened terrace area for the Café Bar & Grill.  Offering light snacks and meals daily from 10am until late, a drinks only menu will also be offered for the first time this summer.  The perfect place to enjoy a glass of Prosecco or chilled bottled lager in the Exeter sunshine, guests will be welcome to relax and enjoy time with friends, at some of the most popular tables in the city.

Inside the hotel, the new Cathedral Lounge offers a new, indulgent space for afternoon tea, with picture windows offering stunning views across Cathedral Yard.  Also available to book exclusively for private events, the new lounge is the perfect space for a family party or private dinner with friends, seating up to 30, or with a standing capacity of up to 40.

Sunday lunch, launched for the first time this year at the hotel’s Michael Caines Restaurant, is continuing, following high demand during the first quarter of 2015.  Perfect for a family get together, two courses cost just £17.95 per person, with child menus also offered at £9.95 for two courses, and diners should book early to secure their table.

Dining options at the ABode Exeter also include a hearty pub meal with a pint of cask ale in the Well House Tavern, a casual dinner or drinks with eclectic music in the Café Bar & Grill, or seasonal tasting menus at the hugely popular Michael Caines Restaurant, where a two course table d’hote menu is one of the city’s best bargains at just £14.95 for two courses at lunchtime, Monday to Saturday.

Andrew Brownsword CBE, owner and Chairman of the ABode Exeter, comments, “My family and I are passionate in our role as custodians of the fine buildings in which our hotels are housed and we take huge pride in launching the newly restored Royal Clarence Hotel, ABode Exeter.  Our aim is to create a boutique hotel which embraces the heritage of the building in which it is set, whilst at the same time offering a contemporary city experience, and we look forward to welcoming guests to share ABode Exeter with us”.

For visitors from out of town, or Exeter residents looking to treat themselves, ABode Exeter offers 53 bedrooms, combining Georgian grandeur and minimalist chic design, created with luxury and relaxation in mind.  Neutral tones and pared-down furniture sit alongside the building’s original features, which include stained glass, red Devon sandstone and charming old beams.
