Record bookings for Exeter's Southgate
A popular city hotel is experiencing a record number of bookings from across Devon this Christmas.
The Mercure Exeter Southgate Hotel will be hosting a number of party nights over the Christmas period with a Roaring 20’s theme.
Currently, the hotel is expecting over 3,500 guests, almost double the amount of guests who attended the Moulin Rouge themed parties last year.
Guests will be greeted upon arrival with a complimentary drink followed by a three course festive dinner. The event will also include a disco, complete with a DJ and photo booth.
People are welcome to visit the hotel and see the facilities ahead of booking their parties. A complimentary 1920’s Bees Knees cocktail which will feature over the Christmas period will be on offer.
Tamsyn Parsons, Sales Manager at the Southgate Hotel, said: “With Christmas only a couple of months away, we urge people to book their Christmas parties early. We’ve had almost double the number of bookings for Christmas than we did last year which is fantastic. The Roaring 20’s will add a touch of glamour to the parties and I hope everybody will embrace the theme.”
Bookings are also up from 2014 for New Years Eve.
The growth in Christmas bookings comes after a successful year for the hotel, having undergone a £2.5m refurbishment and more recently playing host to the Tongan rugby team and their families during the Rugby World Cup 2015.
The team visited Exeter to play a match against Namibia at Sandy Park on 29th Sept where they won 35-21. The hotel’s Gate House restaurant hosted a Tongan themed dinner for the players and their families, with a South West twist. During their stay they also laundered 800 pieces of kit per day and extended the beds by an additional six inches!
The hotel has seen a record breaking summer, including the highest revenue on record in July when they took over £1/2 million in room sales alone.
Growth is expected to continue in 2016, with a key focus on bringing more leisure and corporate business into the area. They hotel is already seeing an increase in American and Australian visitors booking for next year, along with some key conference business coming back to the area.
