Nowell looks to use Six Nations triumph to help inspire Chiefs
Exeter Chiefs winger Jack Nowell is looking to use England’s Six Nations Grand Slam victory to help steer the club to glory.
The 22-year-old was a key player for England, as Eddie Jones' side stormed to victory last month, and Nowell feels the experience will better him in the future.
Talking ahead of Chiefs highly anticipated European Champions Cup Quarter-final with Wasps, he said: “Playing in front of big crowds in high pressure situations and must-win games will benefit me when coming back here to play in the Quarter-finals.”
Nowell returned to club Rugby action at the weekend and helped the Chiefs to an excellent 50-12 victory, in a match which saw him produce some excellent statistics. The winger made 144 metres from 19 carries and beat ten players as Chiefs warmed up for their huge European clash.
That performance along with his consistently impressive displays for the Chiefs has earned him the praise of head coach Rob Baxter, he said: “He’s absolutely bang on! I think with Jack, a lot like probably quite a few of the England lads, looks bang on form, fit fresh and ready to go.
“It’s a great credit to how they’ve been training and playing for England, but also a great credit to the players themselves. They’ve come back and bought into the club culture.”
The Exeter Chiefs have glory very much within their grasps and look in a strong position to finish the Premiership season well and go into the European tie on Saturday with a spring in their step.
With key players returning from the Six Nations Nowell insists he has strong belief in his team mates to finish the season in a successful manner, he continued: “We don’t just want to go out an enjoy games and enjoy the atmosphere. We want to go out and win. That is the big thing that’s pushed throughout the whole club.”
With Nowell and his team mates looking up, he was quick to remind about the task at hand, and the threat that Saturday’s opponents will pose to at the Ricoh Arena.
He said: “They’re a very dangerous team. Their backs are extremely dangerous and they can create something out of nothing. But hopefully we can force them to do stuff in their defence that they’re not comfortable with.”
Chiefs visit Wasps on Saturday and the match kicks off at 3:15pm
