Stockley happy to stay with Exeter City
Exeter City striker Jayden Stockley has revealed he would be happy to remain at the club after his current loan deal expires at the end of the season.
The 22-year-old has had multiple temporary spells in his short career with clubs such as; Portsmouth, Torquay United, Luton Town and Cambridge United, whilst his parent club Bournemouth have risen to the wonders of the Premier League.
But Stockley is keen to play consistent football, something he has found with Paul Tisdales Grecians in League Two.
When asked by Exeter Daily if he would like to remain with the Devon club the striker said: “Yes of course I would. I’m just going to focus on getting as many goals as I can. It’s best to leave it (the contract situation) until the summer and hopefully things can get wrapped up quickly one way or another.”
Stockley joined the Grecians for the second half of the season after being on loan to Portsmouth for the early parts of the campaign.
The arrival of the striker has boosted the City squad and Stockley has been a key player for the side, particularly in recent games as the club registered eight consecutive matches unbeaten.
Stockley explained: “I’ve probably played the most games here out of any other loan spells I’ve had, and I feel I’ve settled in with the lads very quickly.”
On the clubs’ excellent run Stockley has highlighted the strong squad selection as a reason for the Grecians impressive form.
He continued: “The consistency of playing together produces better performances. We are defending from the front now and I think we are a lot more of a solid unit.”
With six games to go, City have hit the right form at the correct time as they now sit just two points behind a play off place in the League table, and Stockley has revealed that his fellow players are feeling optimistic about the rest of the campaign.
“I think we have to take ourselves seriously now for play off contenders because of the position we’re in. If we can continue this run then we will be in with a great shout, a few wins can take you in there.”
With another local derby for the club coming this weekend as City take on an in form Yeovil Town side, who are unbeaten in their last three matches, Stockley knows that it will not be an easy tie.
He said: “We know Yeovil are on a good run themselves but we go there confident just like we do every single game, but with added pressure now I think it will be a tough game but we’ve got something to play for now.”
