Marketing and Business Development Manager for Construction Consultancy Ward Williams Associates has been appointed Chairman of the Association of Women in Property (WiP) Devon and Cornwall Satellite Branch.

Sarah Greenslade, who works in Truro and specialises in construction/consultancy marketing and communications, will assume the role as part of the national organisation that seeks to enhance the profile of women in the property and construction industry sectors.

During her 12-month tenure, Sarah will oversee events across both counties, which have over the last 12 months increased in number and participation. Highlights from 2015 included seminars, to site visits and kayaking, to wine tasting.

The Devon and Cornwall branch of WiP, is part of the larger South West region, which has seen increased membership from women across the industry, in professions such as architecture, contracting, engineering, property consultancy, law and finance.

Sarah will work in conjunction with the South West branch Chairman Natasha Cottell, Business Development Manager from Wates, to ensure that it is another successful year for the organisation, which also covers Bristol, Gloucester and Southampton.

Sarah said: “Women in Property is a fantastic organisation, which has been running for almost 30 years, providing opportunities and support for women in the industry, through networking, mentoring and professional development.

“With a backdrop of skills shortages and a lack of diversity in the construction sector, organisations such as this are crucial in making a difference and promoting the exciting career options available to everyone.

“Over the last year the Devon and Cornwall committee has increased the number and range of events on offer, growing our collective network and increasing membership, bringing people together. We are delighted that Devon & Cornwall has become one of the stand out satellite branches in the UK and are aiming to keep this momentum up throughout the next year”.

Martin Ayliffe, Director at Ward Williams Associates commented: “As one of the largest Construction Consultancies in the South West, and with a significant presence in Devon and Cornwall, we recognise the importance of contributing to professional organisations such as WIP locally, both for the individual involved and the company, in order to build professional links, promote diversity, and enhance personal development and opportunities”.
