Hospiscare rugby day out set to be best ever
Rugby players, local businesses and even an otter have come together to support what is expected to be Hospiscare’s best ever Men’s Walk this March.
The rugby day out, taking place on Saturday March 15, will include new additions along the 10k route to keep the walkers both entertained and refreshed.
More than 400 men signed up to take part in the Men’s Walk last year, and Hospiscare Event Fundraiser Hannah Slater said the chance to have a lads and dads day out, coupled with the draw of watching three Six Nations matches at the home of the Exeter Chiefs, has seen men rushing to sign up again in 2014.
Hannah said: “For just £15 we are giving men the chance to have the male equivalent of a shopping and spa day for women.
“Fun and banter are always a key part of the walk but this year we have introduced some fun but obscure rugby trivia to test the walkers’ knowledge of the game while completing the route.
“A free pint and pasty will welcome the men back, followed by an afternoon watching Italy v England, Wales v Scotland and France v Ireland on big screens at Sandy Park’s Exeter Suite.”
Exeter Chiefs players have been helping local charity Hospiscare to gear up for the 2014 Men’s Walk, offering their time to promote the walk whilst also signing merchandise to be won at the event.
Hannah said: “Exeter Chiefs have been so supportive of the walk and have donated a signed rugby ball as one of our prizes.
“A fantastic signed England rugby shirt, very kindly framed by the Framing Lot, can also be won on the day, along with other great prizes including four tickets to tour the Millennium Stadium.”
Local businesses have also been supporting the walk with Wilkinson Grant & Co, Stones Solicitors, Vapormatic, LV, and Exeter Family Friendly all signing up to sponsor the event.
A team of Estate Agents from Wilkinson Grant & Co will join the hundreds of men at the start line on March 15, looking forward to their post-walk pasty and pint and the chance to meet Otter Brewery mascot Derek the Otter.
