The Elves and the Shoemaker

Sitting in his kitchen workshop, Sam Lacey makes terrible shoes and tries to sell them online. They are so bad that no-one really wants them, not even his neighbour (who thinks he should give up and get a real job!). Dancing at Lughnasa

The Cygnet Company present Dancing at Lughnasa by Brian Friel. The time is 1936: harvest time in Ballybeg, County Donegal. MUSIC
The Skints
Friday, 7.30pm, Exeter Phoenix
The Skints are a reggae and dub band of upstarts from East London. They mix Jamaican styles with pop hooks, grimey raps, filthy basslines and a punk rock work ethic to create a sound familiar to newcomers, yet unique below the surface. The band have toured across the UK and Europe with a variety of bands including Reel Big Fish, Gym Class Heroes, Less Than Jake, The Beat and The King Blues as well as making numerous festival appearances including at Devon’s Beautiful Days festival. Lemonfest 2013
Saturday, Newton Abbot Racecourse
Lemonfest, the one day festival, returns to Newton Abbot Racecourse on Saturday 1 June 2013. This year’s line-up includes Lucy Rose, The Skints, I Divide, Tall Ships, Mad Dog Mcrae, Adam Isaac, Sub Zero, Land of the Giants, Moriaty, Catalyst and many more. Wren Band: When The Moon Is Full...

The new show from the Wren Band is full of rich harmonies and top class musicianship. Songs and music delve into a mesmerising world of myth and legend from near and far, much of it drawn from the research and writings of Victorian hagiographer, antiquarian, novelist, folk song collector and eclectic scholar Sabine Baring-Gould (notably his The Book of Were-Wolves), along with newly-written pieces inspired by his other folklore writing. Ottery St Mary Food & Families Festival

The fun of the festival starts on Friday evening (31 May) with a special food trail throughout the town in the local pubs and restaurants and continues throughout Saturday 1 June with a market stall running the length of Mill Street, a cookery theatre, live music, beer (and cider) tent, children’s competitions and much more. There'll be cookery demonstrations in the pop-up kitchen featuring local chefs showcasing the very best way to use local ingredients. Exeter Respect Festival 2013

The Respect Festival is the city's most successful free community event. Free entry to all, with a huge selection of activities, food, trade stalls, community groups, dance workshops, entertainment and much, much more. The Tudor Household: A hands-on day for adults

A rare opportunity to experience life in the late 16th century in one of Exeter’s finest historical buildings. With the exclusive use of the Priory, participants can immerse themselves in Tudor life with the History Re-enactment Workshop’s Tudor family. Activities include cooking, sewing and needlecrafts, writing, still room work and song and dance. Bring an apron, notepad, shoes you can dance in and a packed lunch. Dunchideock Church Fete

The bi-annual Dunchideock Church Fete takes place on Saturday 1 June in the lovely grounds of Dunchideock House starting at 1.30pm. As well as the many stalls offering plants, produce, bric a brac, books and more there will be a children’s fancy dress competition (all age groups up to 13), pony rides, a fun dog show, duck racing, skittles, Welly Wanging, rat splatting and lots more. Model Railway Exhibition
Saturday & Sunday, Matford Livestock Centre, Marsh Barton, Exeter
The EXE Model Railway Society's annual showcase exhibition takes place this year on the weekend of 1 and 2 June. One of the biggest model railway events in the area, the event is held at The Matford Centre on Exeter's Marsh Barton Trading Estate. The venue is adjacent to the Matford Park and Ride. Open Saturday 10am-5.30pm, Sunday 10am-4.30pm. Admission: £6, £5 conc, children free.
Crediton Flower Festival and Exhibition: National Treasures
Crediton Parish Church, Crediton
The theme this year is 'National Treasures', which celebrates people, places, events and precious things which we value as part of our national heritage. Come and see how floral artists meet the challenge of interpretating this theme with spectacular and intriguing floral displays. There will also be stalls, an exhibition by the Newton St Cyres Art Group, excellent refreshments and light meals, and church tours. Catrin Webster: Lived Abstractions

The works collected in this exhibition are the outcome of artist Catrin Webster’s Leverhulme Trust-funded residency in the Department of Geography at the University of Exeter, 2012-13. The exhibition runs until 9 July, Monday to Friday, 8.30am-5.30pm.
