Wainwright prize-winner Hugh Thomson will be continuing his UK theatre tour this summer at the Exeter Phoenix in Exeter on July 5th, revealing tales of his British ‘South-American adventure’, a hike inspired by the age-old tradition of being accompanied by a pack mule.

Hugh is a writer, film-maker and avid walker who has travelled to the wildest corners of the planet. He has made films about writers such as Oscar Wilde and Patricia Highsmith, and also produced documentaries including the Grierson-winning Indian Journeys with William Dalrymple. Intriguing graffiti appears on the wall of Exeter military base

A graffiti artist has been at work in an unexpected place - the high red-brick wall surrounding Exeter's Wyvern Barracks.

The graffiti has appeared on the otherwise featureless wall along Topsham Road, near the main gates.

But this isn't an attack of hostile vandalism on the important military base. The graffiti artist, Max Nettleton from Exeter College, was invited by the Barracks' Commanding Officer to decorate the wall using removeable paint, to publicise the big event taking place there at the beginning of July, ‘100 Years Behind the Red Brick Wall'.

Two Moors Festival honour for Exeter School musician

A 13-year-old pupil from Exeter School is celebrating being named Young Musician of the Year at the prestigious Two Moors Festival.

Double bass player Adam Cole shares the title with three other young musicians.

Year 9 pupil Adam likes playing classical and jazz music on double bass and piano.

Adam competed against over 50 performers across the South West (all Grade 7 or equivalent and aged 18 or under) and will now perform at the featured Festival Autumn Award Winners Concert in October.
