Spring is a wonderful season as new colours begin to emerge from the land. The days get brighter and longer, and the gloominess of winter goes into decline. To make the most of the season change, it is a good idea to change your home décor to match the changing landscape.

This will help to put a spring in your stride (no pun) and capture the freshness of the season. It will bring the season alive for everyone in the house. With this in mind, let’s explore some options for renewing the inside of your house, while the land is renewed by the emergence of spring.

Consider Using Blue

The colour blue is sometimes associated with icy coldness, but use it well, and you may find it is a good transitional colour from the grey of winter to the green freshness that spring ushers in. Consider using different shades of blue in your rugs, throws, and pillows to give the feeling of transition. Maybe change a few furniture pieces in your home to reflect the season.

Green

Of course green is an important spring colour, and with clever use, certain rooms could have a kind of a green makeover. Consider using greens in pillows, vases, and blankets where the season can be complemented by flowers picked from the garden.

Change your Bedding

You may want to consider changing bedding to spring friendly colours. Think about using cotton-based sheets which are lighter and ideal as the temperatures shift towards the warmer side. Add tulips and other spring flowers around the bedroom, so you capture the smells as well as the appearance of spring.

Use Unscented Candles

Normally, winter candles are scented and very much a feature of a room. Often pine and mint are used to recreate winter in the home. Candles in winter are used to brighten up dark corners or make those winter nights cosier.

The spring, however, requires a different approach. You may want to consider using unscented candles in neutral colours to welcome in the new season.

Try placing them on stands to add ambience as the long day slowly tumbles into the night.

Redecorate

If you feel a room is lacking the wow factor or feels tired, now is a good time to give a place a home decorating makeover ready for Spring and Summer. After you have used your spring colour scheme on the ceilings, walls, and floors, consider replacing older dilapidated furniture with newer more practical and aesthetically pleasing lines.

If you are going to redecorate a room or maybe two, consider the following:

  • Darker colours make a room feel smaller and diminish natural light. This can make a room feel cosier and intimate.
  • Conversely, lighter colours make a room feel bigger and airier by accentuating natural light.
  • Use a colour wheel to identify what colours work together and choose accordingly.
  • Think about the function of the rooms and the effect you want to create. You may want brighter rooms in the kitchen and bathrooms, while the lounge is more about cosiness and intimacy.

Add a Spring Wreath

Finally, to welcome in spring consider adding a spring wreath. This is a lovely touch to add to your home. If you had winter wreaths, spring wreaths need to convey freshness and floral elements to bring your home alive. Adding flowers such as tulips should help create a wonderful spring feeling in your home.
