Woman bit by dog and teenager suffers effects of smoke after fire at an Exeter home

A 15-year-old girl and a woman needed medical treatment after a fire at an Exeter home.

The girl suffered smoke ihnalation and the woman was bitten by a dog in the incident in Newman Road, St Thomas.

Below is Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue's report from the incident:

Two fire appliances from Danes Castle and Middlemoor were mobilised following a call from the occupant of a property reporting that their television was on fire, in the living room.

Shortly after arriving crews confirmed smoke was issuing, and entered the property with 2 BA wearers and 1 hose reel jet. They later located the fire, in the ground floor living room of the 2 storey semi detached, privately rented property.

At 21:18hrs an ambulance was requested for a 15yr old girl suffering from slight smoke inhalation. 

At 21:22hrs crews confirmed another female had been bitten by a dog and were in the process of rendering first aid.

At 21:26hrs BA was discontinued but they continued the use of a positive pressure ventilation fan to clear the smoke.

At 21:34hrs crews confirmed the incident was under control and the fire extinguished. The living room was severely damaged by the fire, which started accidentally. The female bitten by the dog was conveyed to hospital and the 15yr old girl, suffering from smoke inhalation, left in the hands of on scene paramedics. Once complete duty of care was left with the Police. These are the full and final details.
