Free wills during Hospiscare’s Will Writing Fortnight

Free wills are on offer in May as part of Hospiscare’s Will Writing Fortnight. 

Thirty local solicitors are taking part in Will Writing Fortnight, which runs from May 12 to 23, they are giving up their time to write up new Wills and update old ones. Local solicitors offering this service are giving people the chance to make a donation to Hospiscare instead of paying the normal fee.

Hospiscare has been working with participating solicitors in Exeter, mid and east Devon since 2007 to help people plan for the future.

McMilan Williams, in Crediton is the latest to become involved with the scheme, taking the total number of local offices involved to 30.

David Kelshall from McMilan Williams said: “Our team of lawyers decided to get involved with Hospiscare so that we could give something back to the community. Will Writing Fortnight gives people the opportunity to donate to a local charity which supports people with terminal illnesses.’’

Making a Will gives people peace of mind and secures their loved ones’ futures; many people put it off despite knowing the importance of having one.

 David said: “It’s important to have a will so that whatever someone has can be left to their loved ones, and their intentions for any items or assets are clearly stated.’’

Hospiscare is a local charity that provides care for people with terminal illnesses in Exeter, mid and east Devon together with their families.

Hospiscare relies on gifts and fundraising to continue its work and while there is no obligation to leave a gift to Hospiscare in your Will, the charity is always very grateful when people remember them.

Liz Gibbons, Director of Nursing said: “Donations and gifts in Wills are important to Hospiscare as they help us to fund nurses who provide vital support and care for patients and their families in the community.

“Will Writing Fortnight is great because it not only helps and encourages people to update or make their Wills, but also provides Hospiscare with much-needed donations to continue our work.”

Suggested donations are £100 for a single will, £150 for a mirror will and £75 to change an existing will.
