Anne Deeming
Exeter Phoenix
A new, site specific, sculptural installation by Anne Deeming who designs and makes objects that look familiar and usable in some way – and yet are not. Her works exist as amalgamations of everyday utilitarian objects with features that can trigger multiple associations with something the viewer has used or seen before. She is interested in the areas of slippage between the familiar and foreign, domestic and industrial, the useful and useless. By examining the role that expectation and memory plays in our reading and understanding of objects, the pieces articulate an, often subconscious, relationship with the items we surround ourselves with. The exhibition runs until 12 July. www.exeterphoenix.org.uk
