Specialist advice for agricultural businesses

The independent firm of Thomas Westcott, chartered accountants, which has 13 offices across Devon, has recruited experienced farming consultant Sally Nicholls to join its Agricultural team.

Agricultural and farming businesses across the South West can now access expert advice about a broad range of practical issues, from important legislation changes to grant funding opportunities, at Thomas Westcott.

With a background in farming and a degree in agricultural management Sally brings a wealth of knowledge about the very specific - and growing - pressures facing the UK farming industry.

She said: "I grew up in rural North Devon, where we have a smallholding keeping sheep, and my father worked locally on a dairy farm. I joined the local Young Farmers' club whilst still at school, and was later employed in the agricultural sector including two local feed merchants and a local dairy business dealing with legislation requirements such as waste management, environmental stewardship, health and safety, and farm assurance.

"This gives me a great insight into the pressures that are faced by farmers every day."

Although now an adviser to farming and agricultural businesses, for instance guiding them through changes to the Common Agricultural Policy or helping provide access to specialist grant funding opportunities, Sally said she is still happy to get her hands dirty when needs be.
