Word Play: New dates released
InExeter are pleased to announce further Word Play event dates.
Word Play was launched in July and following its success five extra dates have been confirmed for 2022. It is a free, family friendly event for children celebrating storytelling and the beauty of the written word and is held at Positive Light Projects on Sidwell Street.
Ann Hunter, InExeter BID Manager comments, ‘I am really pleased that InExeter are continuing Word Play. The focus is simply to inspire young people to engage with reading and writing through a range of free fun and creative workshops and activities.
"I am proud we can offer this in the city and give families the opportunity to take part in free activities during their visit into Exeter.”
The new dates released are as follows:
Saturday 3rd September
Sunday 2nd October
Monday 24th October – during the half term holiday
Sunday 6th November
Sunday 4th December
Word Play is aimed at children twelve and under, it is a drop in event open between 10:00am – 3:00pm. Families are invited to spend as much time as they like exploring the activities and getting involved.
Word Play has been organised by Lottie Stanley, InExeter Markets Manager. Lottie says, “I am excited to build on the success of Word Play and plan to add themes to the different sessions including some seasonal narratives including Halloween activities during Half Term and festive crafts in December so each one will offer something different.”
At the next Word Play event taking place on Saturday 3rd September there will be Tiny Travels with stories from around the world. Tiny Travels aims to help children grow up understanding that each country is made up of numerous cultures. There is not one style of dress, food item or music that represents a whole country; rather it is many cultures and communities, each with its own traditions, customs and history that make up a country, and that's what makes each place special and unique.
At the event families will learn about different African countries, with colourful photos and fun facts of the backdrops bringing the countries to life. Children will also be welcome to explore crafts, instruments, and pretend play foods to learn about different cuisines.
Storytelling will be held throughout the day with Tiny Travels founder, Kate. Kate has travelled to over 120 countries, is a mum of 2 small children and is passionate about helping families in Devon learn about our wonderful world.
