A Dip in the Sea from the OCT: A little bit of help, makes a big splash
Ocean Conservation Trust has launched it’s Dip in the Sea campaign to support local communities in need gain access to seaside essentials for enjoying time at the ocean.
The Ocean Conservation Trust has launched its Dip in the Sea from the OCT campaign which aims to support the local communities and families in need to access the essentials needed to get them back to the beach.
Donations can be made directly at the National Marine Aquarium where the teams will deliver and distribute seaside equipment such as swimwear across the city to those who need it. Wanting to give people the full experience of a brilliant day at the beach, as well as swimwear, OCT are also accepting donations of swimcaps, beach shoes, wetsuits, buoyancy aids, swim shoes, towels, googles, sun cream and buckets and spades.
With a call out for donations of swimwear that people no longer use, OCT will make sure it reaches those who need it and encourage more people to #thinkocean and fall in love with the beautiful Devon coastline.
As with classic British weather and many people wanting to make the most of the beach during the colder months, OCT are also on the lookout for wintery accessories including dry robes, wellies and anything that could make for a more fun and exciting time at the seaside.
Donations can be made at the OCT headquarters at the National Marine Aquarium, with plans to have drop off spots across the city. No entry ticket is required for drop off, and can easily be dropped into the donation box at the NMA’s gift shop. Working closely with a number of charities tackling financial hardships in Plymouth, Ocean Conservation Trust is working with local food banks and Wellbeing Hubs including Trussell Trust, William Sutton Memorial Hall, Emmanuel & St Paul’s Parish Church, City College Student Food Bank and more.
Ocean Conservation Trust, said: “We are very proud of our oceans and beautiful coastline here in Plymouth and it’s increasingly important to us that everyone in the community has everything they need to engage with the ocean and enjoy what we have right here on our doorstep. Taking the items many people take for granted when considering a trip to the seaside, Ocean Conservation Trust will be collecting and donating these items to those facing financial barriers as we believe no-one should be excluded from accessing the ocean. We have an incredible team who pack and deliver the swim packs to the amazing charity partners we work with on this campaign and we can’t wait to get more people back to the beach.”
