Exeter Homelessness Charity awarded £16K grant

The Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales has awarded a £16,000 grant over two years to St Petrock’s homelessness charity based in Exeter.

St Petrock’s helps people who are homeless, or vulnerably housed, lead more settled and fulfilling lives. The charity offers a range of emergency support, accommodation, prevention and educational services aimed to assist individuals back into healthier and more positive lifestyles. 

The grant from the Foundation will contribute towards the salary of a project worker. The Foundation is one of the few grant makers that supports vital core costs such as salaries and rent which allows charities to continue to provide much needed services for their communities.

Mel Hartley, Project Manager for St Petrock’s explains:

“Our project workers provide advice on accommodation, benefits and health as well as making referrals to accommodation providers and specialist services to homeless people in Exeter. The grant from the Foundation will help us to deliver these vital services to vulnerable individuals.”

Trevor Smale, Grant Manager for the South West for the Foundation commented:

“During 2011, the Foundation awarded £1.7 million to 77 charities across the South West that work with disadvantaged people, to help them play a fuller role in their communities. Charity funding has become harder to secure in recent years and most charities have also seen demand for their services increase. At the Foundation we are committed to supporting core costs so that charities can focus on helping those most in need.”
